I have a 620 with a ric humbucker in the bridge position and a stock high gain at the neck. To a certain extent I agree with Ken, the ric HB muddles the clarity a bit, especially if you are playing a lot of 7ths, suspended 4ths/6ths, ect. I just turned the bass all the way down on my amp and that ...

How important is the published power rating?

I am looking to get a 4x12 from avatar soon and I wanted to load it with 4 of the Eminence alnico 122’s. They were described as good for blues & “chime-y”, I like the sound of that. However 4 of them together equals 140 watts of power handling and my amp outputs 200 watts.

Different people have ...

DT-1 pro

I recently got a korg DT-1 pro rack tuner. It didn’t come with a manual and I was curious if any of you guys had one and knew what the different modes were for. ‘Fast’, ‘Slow’, & ‘Sound’. It seems like fast is just jumpier and less accurate. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks guys. I called tubestore.com and they recommended the EH 12ax7s. They said they perform especially well in Mesa Pre's according to his customer feedback.

They also said that the Sovtek 12ax7lps and the JJ/Telsa 12ax7 are warmer sounding tubes, but the EH is better overall. So I went with ...

12ax7's

I'm going to re-tube my preamp. Up to this point it's been using stock mesa boogie tubes (which I think are just Chinese that are relabeled). I'm thinking about switching it up this time around and using either Electro-Harmonix 12ax7's or the Sovtek 12ax7LPS. Anyone have positive or negative ...

Thanks folks. I did a little more checking around in the $300-$400 price range and while crown, peavey, etc all have some decent power amps available for that sticker price, none seem to have the features and versatility of the QSC amps. (Granted, I don’t need it to be all that versatile because it ...

Power amps

I need to get a power amp for my Mesa Boogie Studio-Pre. At practice it’d be driving a 300W cab, but on the road it’d be driving whatever cab the club/other bands were using.

After a little web browsing and window-shopping it looks like the QSC RMX 850 has an excellent range of features and is ...

Well, I took the plunge. Thanks again to everyone for their information and assistance. I appreciate the help in making an educated purchase for my first electric. After my last post I made my way to a couple of music stores that had rics in stock to give them a try. I played a 650D & it felt and ...

Thanks for your responses guys. I appreciate the input.

I looked through the archive as suggested, as well as checking out the ric company page. The 650 series is in my price range (only $200 more new than the tele I was looking at) and seems to be ready to be tried at some local music shops in ...

New to the Electric Game

Hey there. I am a drummer who about a year ago began learning the guitar. I learned on an acoustic, and while I like it fine, I am ready to purchase my first electric. I haven’t played many electrics but of the ones I have played I found that I liked the feel of a G&L Asat classic and didn’t like ...
