Re: 4005XC
Nice! The 4005XC is one versatile instrument, to be sure! I'm pushing hard to see what the technical upper bounds are on it, and still finding new avenues to explore! Unlike most basses, it's got enough treble in it that you can really push bass harmony too: https://soundcloud.com/koshchei-1/churchi...

Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features
John Hall, call your office: 1. Korina body wings / headstock wings 2. Ebony fingerboards (lacquered) 3. 325 shaped Solid Bodies, possibly scaled down to obtain a comfortable weight. 4. Satin finish necks 5. YES! chambered 4003 Bodies. Understood to be pricey. 6. A 100% Wenge 4003 or 4004. Skipping...

Re: 4005XC
It's the jumping bow technique that string players use when playing really fast arpeggio shapes across strings, where the lowest and highest notes are repeated. François Rabbath adapted the technique from violin for double bass, and I've tried to extend it for electric bass. I assume that you are d...

Montagues and Capulets - Rickenbacker 4005XC
Here's my arrangement and recording of Sergei Prokofiev's Montagues and Capulets (Dance of the Knights) for two basses:

Re: 4005XC
Just another plug about what beasts these basses are! Just coming down the home stretch of developing a saltando plucking technique using my 4005XC, and holy hell does it handle fast playing well.

It'll be a 381-based bass with All The German Carves.

Re: 4005XC
Very subtle install!
I wish I could say I could tell the difference between the piezo and mag, but I really can't! Might just be YouTube and their audio compression algorithm though.
What are your thoughts?

Re: 90th anniversary XC basses and guitars still in production with 2022 serial numbers!
I'd chalk it up to Rickenbacker's low production capacity. They're producing 90 of each alongside their regular production, which bottlenecks how quickly they can build them.

Re: Is light fret buzz normal on a 4003?
By tweaking action and relief, you should be able to get pretty low action without buzzing. I can get my 2020 4003 down to about 1.25mm (a bit more than 3/64ths) on the G string and 1.5mm (a bit under 1/16th) on the E without buzzing (both at the 12th fret). But the neck has a bit more relief on the...

Re: 4005XC
You and I are on exactly the same page. I got mine to play the snot out of as well! I'd more or less consigned it to "out of reach" until Wildwood's sale, and was fortunate enough to have my net handy :) And nothing against Collectors whatsoever - they love music and the instruments, the s...
