Yes, that is why I replaced mine. It had developed a little lift a couple of decades ago. It seemed to stabilize for a while then seemed to get active again, showing tiny signs of movement. I did it to my '74 4001. Take the old one off, clean the area. pace the template with existing screws/screw holes and drill the three little new holes. Mount the new hardware and ground wire and restring. Pretty much that easy. There is no tonal or sound difference I could hear. Intonation and strin...

My brief experience here - I have never played an original HS. I have heard many played over the years but I personally not played one. I have an original Lollar (Law Suite) HS, Which I have on my '74 4001. I played a RI HS about a year after they first cam out. So to me the original Rickenbacker HS...

well, I was looking at the new Rickenbacker web site and it seems to be up and running with a listing of dealers... 3 in MD and 1 in VA. Might be making a phone call soon.

I should go to Chuck's. After all that is where I bought my first Rickenbacker all those years ago (a 4001 bought brand spankin new in 1974).

Rhodes in Manheim PA is about four and a half to five hours away.... a little far for me. Thanks thou. I wonder if Chuck Levin's is still a dealer.....

Agreed Paul. Personally I think the pickups may be at an optimum location for a very wide range of sounds ..... but to each their own.

The real questions - availability, how and when available, price...

I have. Not too often but I have used it. The old cloth under the strings just didn't seem to do it, especially if you want to pick/pluck the strings behind the pickup cover area.
