I had one for a while and was not impressed at all. I put it in front of a solid state amp hoping for the promised tube tone and I could not tell any difference. I sold it and bought an all tube amp instead.

74 4001 vs 03 4003 - help!

My local store just got in a 1974 4001 in Mapleglo that looks almost pristine, just a few very minor scratches. I thought it was new when I first saw it. It also has the skunk stripe and the neck is straight as an arrow.
I noticed that the tuners were the enclosed Grovers - is this correct for this ...

You have 5 to choose from and you're scared to take the new baby for a ride because it might catch a disease. 8^)

Rickenbrother - I had it for almost 2 months and it has not left the house. It's definitely not finish checking but it looks like something circular was set down on the bass during one of the finish coats and is under a few layers.
I'm real anal on how I care for whatever I own and instruments ...

4003 finish flaw - what would you do?

I have a beautiful 4003 MB and I love it. The other night I was looking at it from across the room and the reflection of house lights on the surface of the front of the bass caused me to see a flaw that I hadn't noticed ever. Upon closer inspection if you hold the bass just right you can see the ...

"Yeah, they are super nice for bending and wide vibratos! These are really bright sounding "Modern Flats" that reflect the nuances of picking and fingering."

Very well said Paul!!

"John i dont find they need a lighter touch, you just raise the action a bit (on my 4001, "

Owen - what I meant was that you don't need to play with a heavy touch like you do with higher tension strings. Because of their lower tension they react well to a lighter touch which helps you hand to ...

I have all 5 of my basses strung with TI jazz flats. I even turned on my luthier to them (he's a bass player)and he just raves about them. He now pushes the entire TI string line to all his guitar and bass customers and has received nothing but very positive feedback. These strings require you to ...

"How is the Montezuma Brown bass treating you?"
Wonderful, I'm in love. My Fenders are jealous because I'm not fondling them enough.

"After some additional time about it, do you have anything else to add to your original comments."
Well the neck between the nut and the first fret was a ...

My first Ric - 4003 MBR

Wow!! I am just in awe at the sound that comes out of this gorgeous bass. It definitely has a more 'in your face' tone than my Fender basses. The Montezuma Brown finish is simply one of THE nicest bursts I have ever seen. My SUNN 1200s amp seems a perfect match for this tone monster. The new pickups ...

Since you originally asked about the SUNN 300T, they are currently still being made, but by Fender and are now called the Fender Bassman 300. I have one and it kicks butt all day. And the TONE!!!! Yea it weighs 75ibs (compared to my Fender 400 solid state bass amp which is 40lbs) but it forces you ...

Thomastik Infeld Jazz flats. Buy one set and you'll probably never have to change them in your lifetime. All 4 of my basses use them. Won't leave home without them! Simply awesome strings that are well worth the money - usually around $36.

Well mutes do have a purpose now and then on a Ric(ask Paul McCartney) and darn it I want them on my bass for the option!
