Re: NEW RIC DAY!!!!!! 620 Content

In recent years there seems to be more variation in depth of the neck carve while the width of the fretboard has stayed consistent for a given model. 620s from a few years back seemed to have pretty “deep” necks, but I did read somewhere that the newer builds are a bit more slender front-to-back. I’...

I’m also curious about the necks on the 2023s. Do tell!

Re: What's The Attraction To Flatwounds On The 12 Strings?

I'd also add that flats are perfect for folks who dread string changes (understandable on a Ric 12!). Flatwound strings seem to last forever. They don't lose their "zing" like round wounds do - no zing to lose!

Re: Thoughts on Playing Lead on Rick

Here's Mike Campbell playing a killer rock'n'roll solo on some kind of black Ric, maybe a 320: https://youtu.be/i5aRgvRQQmg?t=5412 Notice how when he's way up the neck he has to keep picking as the notes don't sustain like a Les Paul would. It forces him to do something different and it sounds grea...

Re: Explaining the unique sound of the 360v64

This is why I build wiring harnesses for these with the same specs RIC used in the 60's through the 1990's, which were 500k pots for tone and 250k pots for volume. Thanks so much for lending your expertise! Is there any reason beyond tradition for your favoring the 500k/250k mix? Has anyone gone fo...

Re: Explaining the unique sound of the 360v64

Sure, that all makes perfect sense. Has anyone here swapped out pickups and/or pots on one of these? What were your results?

Explaining the unique sound of the 360v64

I’ve been able to play a couple of 360v64 6-strings, and to my ear they sound unlike every other Rickenbacker I’ve played: darker, with the neck pickup in particular bordering on muddy. I had always chalked this up to the 12k toasters, but on a whim I decided to have a look at the schematic. I was s...

Re: My New 330/6

I'm right there with you, Bob! I'm a bit of a horse trader myself. I have to admit, more than one RIckenbacker has fallen prey to my wandering eyeballs.

That is a beautiful 330, though! I hope you do hang onto this one

Re: New Duane Eddy Signature Model

From what I understand trestle bracing actually stiffens the body of a hollowbody guitar by coupling the back to the top at more points. It's supposed to cut down on feedback. I know that Brian Setzer was big in convincing Gretsch to go with this bracing style on some of their newer reissues because...

Re: Peter Buck's right hand

That's interesting, given Peter Buck's preference for heavy strings. My experience has been similar to yours, Robert: I have an easier time picking quickly with heavier strings (and a heavy pick).

Re: Peter Buck's right hand

That is what I had always presumed, but then how do we make sense of this:
johnhall wrote:...Peter does not finger pick or flat pick his arpeggiated style. ...no individual (or duos) of strings are plucked with his right hand.

Peter Buck's right hand

This was buried in a thread about the minutia of Peter Buck's gear choices on early/mid R.E.M. records and I thought it deserved its own thread. Dewitt Burton via John Hall: Okay, here's the story directly from Dewitt Burton: ...Also, what folks don't realize is Peter has a completely original techn...
