Re: Sweetheart of the Rodeo

There is no stringbender on Sweetheart. At the time Sweetheart was recorded, Gene Parsons was installing the first stringbender in a sunburst 1954 tele. Clarence used a white tele, originally owned by Buck Owens for the Sweetheart sessions. That guitar is now owned by Bob Warford. Bob installed the ...

Re: Alternate Tuning for "If You're Gone"?

no dropped or alternate tuning to my knowledge,

Bells of Rhymney is in dropped D....Renaissance Fair was also in Drop D...with a capo..they were actually very innovative in that regard...and David Crosby was the one who taught Joni Mitchell what she knows...

And we wont get into Clarence with ...

Re: Playing Your Top 10 Byrdsongs

BTW.....it's my right as an American....for the time being.....
Dont sweat it..no one's gonna take the right to love a mean hearted woman away...it'd be the end of blues music as we know it...

Now back to our regularly scheduled topic before we get into trouble...

Re: Playing Your Top 10 Byrdsongs

Actually the Byrds stuff is a very small piece of our set list...currently just Tulsa County...our setlist is- for the most part archtypical old guy classic rock-country-blues stuff. We are currently looking for a guitar player...which might be a plus because one reason our ex-guitar player quit was ...

Re: Playing Your Top 10 Byrdsongs

At this point the only one Im actually playing all the way thru on a regular basis is "Tulsa County Blue"...which is not a real typical 12 string Ric Byrd song...altho the ric works well on the version on the Boston tea Party bootleg... it seems enough folks recognize the tune that it goes over well ...

Re: Janglebox 1 question

I dont have a cool leather coat to enhance my folky street cred, but I have used the 'dark' setting on my JB....It did a real nice job of making my tele sound a bit like a hollow body guitar...we were working on a version of Maybelline and it gave a pretty good simulation of the "whomp" of the ...

Re: Loose tuners on 2000 370/12

Diagnosing things long distance is often a good way to get things totally wrong...
If there is slop in the tuners I'd replace them.. The tuners on my 370-12 appear to be schallers..which are good quality tuners....Id try to completely rule out any bridge-neck issues first.

330-12 Nut 0n a 370-12

I just finshed this mod. It .took about 5 minutes and the most sophisticated tool involved was an exacto knife for cutting the finish around the old nut. The fussiest part was light sanding to the bottom of the new nut to get it the same height as the old one. Elmers glue set in about 2 hours ...

Re: Changed Lyrics?

Regarding the changed lyric thing, when Dylan recorded "Another Side of Bob Dylan" it was done over a relatively short period. He was not well rehersed, didnt know the tunes, and by some accounts was in the bag for at least part of the sessions...so its not surprising that there would be some ...

Re: Ferry Cross The Mersey-What Chords???

Wh\ay back when when I did the song, I did it in C...and the verse was C-Gm7....seems to me I found it in one of those "Greatest Hits of 1965 " books they published back then...where the accuracy was not always a priority (I have a crazy story about a go-round with a bandmate about two months ago ...

Re: Hickory Wind

Thats a goood question..they did all sorts or things with the vocals on that album...whether due to Gram Parsons contractual issues or McGuinns desire not to let a contractor dominate the album or whatever...my *guess" is that its either Chris Hillman or perhaps Gram double tracked and harmonizing ...

Re: Post-Notorious Byrd Bros. Jangle

Jesus is Just Alright was a jangle fest...

The Ric stayed in its case alot during the Gram Parsons era...Whe Clarence White and Gene Parsons joined, the band was trying to shake the LA top forty teenybopper image they had, and get some creditibilty as a progressive band...and the jangle became less ...
