For some reason the headstock keeps getting cropped, photobucket etc is very frustrating

Yes, scale length is the distance from the front edge of the nut (where it joins the fretboard) to the center of the 12th fret times two. To intonate correctly the distance from nut to saddle will typically be a little longer.

As you can see the saddles are far back, I can't remember but I might have moved the bridge back a little from where it was originally to get it to intonate.

My 1967 4005 measures 16 and 11/16ths" from edge of nut to center of 12th fret which equals 33 and 3/8ths" scale. The only thing I can think of for differences in scale length is if they changed tooling at some point for some reason.
