Re: Tail lift on a NOS tailpiece?
I think the question pertains to whether or not a new old-stock bridge should have lift. I would think not, but I am no expert. We already know that later-style stock Rickenbacker bridges eventually bend a bit. Does anyone have a new, unused one lying around?

Re: My "new" 4001 - 1975
A general question for the masses - Is $1500 - $1700 a good price for a '75 4001? It's supposed to be in top condition, but I have not yet seen it.
I paid about $1700 for my 1978. In retrospect, the price was a little bit high, but it was in near-new condition. It had been in a case for almost 18 ...

They're definitely different, but I've played a fretted one and it was very nice indeed.

Re: Black 'n Maple 4001
Very nice! Now you need to get a black surround for the neck PUP (usually not too hard to find) and vitage knobs :)
I intentionally left it as-is to have a little chrome left. I tried everything with and without black screws and, for me, I like just a little bit of contrast offered with the ...

It's a 1978 4001, soon to have its own form-fitting case.

Black 'n Maple 4001
Thought I'd share my joy.
It took me a little while to get all the bits, but once I install black Dunlop straplocs this weekend, it will be 90% done.

All that will be left is checked binding and the truss rod cover. I can't yet bring myself to paint the truss rod cover, though ...
