Re: A Word To The Wiese
I think he has well and truly crossed the frontier between "music" and "noise". Sounds like a cross between the static between stations on your radio and someone being beaten to death with an iphone.

I'm surprised the RIC legal SWAT team hasn't closed this down.

Re: 8 string value ?
If it's the one I'm thinking of $1800 is pretty fair for an 89 JG ...last years Vintage Guitar Price Guide says $2200-$3200...plus a silver Vintage case makes it an even better deal (I didn't know that an S8 would fit in a silver case!)....make sure the action is low and that there's no neck bow......

Re: V63 on the 'bay
Just a quick note here to remind everyone that the "deluxe" versions of the 4001/4003 are RIC basses as Zeus intended them and these lesser "S" models are blaspheming abominations. Or something. No No No! Saint Paul the Great but Inconsistent, Saint John the Shredding Entwhistle...

Re: British vs American?
Brett, you are spot-on. The Saints were performing and recording before the Pistols, but just after the Ramones. Aussie punk was pretty much a cult genre, with the Saints as by far the most recognisable name overseas. The other big name locally was Radio Birdman, also a pre-UK punk band, who were gi...

Re: 4003 mute modification - is this possible?
I've seen the mute screws come loose and fall out of some basses ... When I was but a lad, the combination of my punk downstroke-only pick action and hand placement resulted in the progressive loosening of the bass-side mute screw on my 4000, particularly during very energetic numbers, necess...

Re: Getting a new amp...but what should I get?
Jake, If you are up to lugging something chunky, a used Meas-Boogie Mark I, II or III would be an interesting proposition. You can switch from headroom galore to major-league gain, and you will never be "underpowered". Bullet proof quality too, but you may need to hire a team of roadies. A...

Re: Eko Ranger XII LH
A friend of mine had one of these in the '80s. Interesting construction and "craftsmanship". I'm not sure that Eko had worked out that a 12-string neck would be put under more tension than a 6-string.
This is definitely one to tune down a half step, or a full step, or a tritone....

Re: 4005 6-STRING...BASS OR GUITAR?
I always assumed it was similar to a Bass VI, which IIRC was traditionally strung .025-.095, but that low E does not look like .095. Agree!!! The most common of the "baritone' style 6 string basses are Danelectros (and their Jerry Jones analogues), followed by the Fender VI. The 4005/6 is a lo...

Re: Craziest covers of punk songs
I'm glad you liked it! They started out as a bluegrass AC/DC cover band - hence the name "Hayseed Dixie". Their version of "You Shook Me All Night Long" is unbelievable. They have now covered Green Day, The Scissor Sisters, Aerosmith and Motorhead amongst others. They may be a on...

Re: Psychedelia — "back to the future" or "forward to the past"
I'm not sure what constitutes psychedelia. "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Lucy in the Sky", "I am the Walrus", "Happiness is a Warm Gun" and huge chunks of "Freak Out" by Frank Zappa probably qualify, but I'm lost after that. Some critics have stated that ...

Re: The Great S8 Quandary
Hi Darren, I live right next door (so to speak) in Wahroonga. I am back in the area I grew up in following 5 years in the inner west of Sydney and eleven overseas (Japan and the UK). It hasn't really changed that much since I was about 12. A couple of my best mates (and old bandmates) were at Norman...
