Re: Loud Click/Pop Sound on 4003

Maybe a Cap discharging in a bad way? Most plausible cause mentioned thus far.... with truss rod being close second. There aren't many bits of the bass that can make that sort of noise, particularly when the bass is stationary on its stand. Have there been any subtle changes in relief, neck angle, ...

Re: Can I just use the ROS jack since I only like bridge pup

But it is routed and channelled for the neck pup so that would look funny with just a homemade control cavity plate and then an exposed route and channel. Even if not routed and channeled for a neck pickup, I think would look funny with an abbreviated PG. under PG.jpg Wow - nice neck-through skunk-...

Re: Lollar Horseshoe vs. Rickenbacker horseshoe

Horses for courses. I have had both on my V63. The RI HS is bassy, punchy and higher output. The Lollar is more transparent - very similar to the original magentised horseshoes. IMHO, the Lollar is a better match for the vintage RI toaster, whilst the RI HS and old "hot" toaster were well-...

Re: 6-pole Horseshoe Lapsteel PU to 4-Pole Bass HS PU Conver

Amazingly stupid question - does a 6-pole horseshoe work on a bass? The toaster is a six-pole unit, and it works well! :?

Re: Choosing between RIC Hi-Gain, Toaster, or CA pickup

There's always the Lollar Broiler pickup to consider as well - a little cheaper than a toaster. Whilst Jason makes them for guitar, I'm sure he could tap the mounting holes so they would fit on a 4003.

Re: need advice: fix or sell my '73 4001

Getting someone to fix the rods shouldn't be too expensive - you've gone through the process of getting 'em out so you know the drill. New rods can be made for the bass, but may cost north of USD200 to be machined and installed. I had a pair made for my '74 4000 and it cost AUD 300 - around USD 220....

Re: 360/12c63 or a C series 325?

Of the two, the 325 will suit the multiple genres better. It's really not as limited as some might think, particularly if you have a good rig and pedal board. People with large hands can find the upper register of the 325 a little difficult to adjust to, as the frets are just that more tightly space...

Re: Grover replacement?

If I were replacing the Grovers, I would likely go for Ric's own open tuners; they are not too expensive (£75 UK). An early '70s 4001 with Grovers has a slightly different tuner placement to a 4001 fitted with Klusons, or a 4003 (or variant) with the RIC branded Schallers (or the C64 vintage style ...

Re: Grover replacement?

Found these Korean sealed tuners at a UK distributer. The dimensions look to be rather similar to the wavy Grovers, including the footprint and screw hole pattern. The look is less than stellar, however, particularly the elephant ear paddle. Not cheap either...

In OZ/NZ terms, C.J. is but a short stroll and quick swim from here.
