Re: NGD: 1967 365 MG

That's one fine-looking guitar! For me, all the features add up to make it the the pinnacle of Rickenbackers.

Re: When was horsehoe pickup discontinued on 1960s' 4001 bas

Very late '72 to early-mid '73. The full width inlays vanished in late '73, and the tug bar vanished very late in '72.

Re: Thoughts on Playing Lead on Rick

Paul Weller did a pretty decent job of playing some aggressive lead licks with The Jam on his various 330s, and those '70s Higains were pretty low output compared to the modern units. Of the various vibrato units I've used (Strat, PRS, Bigsby, Mosrite Vibramute, and Accent), the Accent has less trav...

Re: sound of a 4000 bass......

Looking at a set-neck 4000, there are some factors that may make a difference: - The set neck 4000 v neck through 4001/3 will on average produce a little less resonance and sustain, though this will be counteracted somewhat by the lack of a neck pickup rout; - The magnetic field of the neck pickup o...

It's so sparkling clean apart from that tiny flaw. It looks like it was locked away in a climate-controlled dust-free environment for 60 years.

Re: 660/12

Is it possible to get a 660/12 with an 'R' tailpiece? Why would you want one? The trapeze tailpiece works great, and is period correct for the instrument. It's also way easier to restring a guitar with a trapeze rather than the "R" tailpiece - and this goes double for a 12 string. I repla...

Re: 1972 4001 saved from dumpster - Help needed

Hi David, and welcome to the RRF. That's a nice Mapleglo bass in somewhat stressed cosmetic condition. It look to have the finish some refer to the finish as "Glueglo" due to the darker stain around the edge of the bass where the binding glue has seeped into the finish. This is actually a ...

Re: So, no more 4004?

I'm surprised that 4004 models are not more used for slapping styles, especially since it has humbuckers, and the decks are so much clearer for slapping than your average 4003, 4001v63 or c64... :D :D :D :D Pickup placement is not ideal IMO. I think a lot of slap players would agree that the Jazz B...

Re: 660/12

Thanks Evan for the info. Judging by the response you must be the only bloke who's got one !!! No worries Andy. I confess that I did take a short time to get used to the small and thin 600 series body. After years of messing with your standard strat/tele/les paul/335, the petite 660/12 is different...

Yeah, the S/N can't be "lost to time" unless the plate is seriously rusted.
Or the plate has been replaced....
