Anyone know which strings he actually used? More specific than long shiny ones.

Re: The Paul McCartney sound

Hey Rudi, we haven't heard from you in a long time, welcome back! I agree with Steve about the Thomastik Infield flats. Thanks Joey! Was without a Rickenbacker for a while and haven't used the one I bought yet. The TI flats are pretty low tension right? Which gauge is there to choose from? What abo...

The Paul McCartney sound

This subject have probably been discussed on numerous occasions earlier but my name is Rudi, almost the same as rude, so I start a brand new thread. ;) I have a '73 Rickenbacker 4001 with toaster that I bought because I love (the looks) the sound Paul McCartney got out of that bass with the Beatles....

Mute assembly for 4001

I have just bought a '73 4001, but the mute assembly is missing. Where can I find one of those?

Hello Julian.

No, I'm not in the US. I live in Norway. But I can pay the shipping to Norway, no problem.

Through PayPal?

Lars: strenger i Norge er så vanvittig dyrt, så jeg bestiller nok fra nettet uansett. Men takk! Åssen utstyr har du? Var nettopp inne på hjemmesiden din og så hva du hadde! Fin, fint! Er bare å si ifra hvis du tenker på å kvitte deg meg '69 P eller '51 RI P! ;) Har forøvrig en '63 P og en '75 Rick s...

I have '75 4001, so Pyramid Golds are out of the picture. That's a shame, cause those strings sounded nice!

Yes, I prefer a more traditional flatwound sound.

Flats on my 4001

Which? I have TIs, but the tension is too low. But I am afraid to have string that is too tight because of the Rickenbacker's neck.

I like the TIs sound though, but not the tension.

Anyone have any suggestions?
