Re: String Poll for Rickenbacker Bass Players
Please describe the differences between the two. Trying to be completely objective. Both Thomastik JF344 and Optima 4440L are wound with alloy 200 (i.e., pure nickel) which makes them have the same output and similar sound. Regarding gauge, JF344 have a lighter 1st string and 2nd string than 4440L ...

Re: What's The Attraction To Flatwounds On The 12 Strings?
.039 for a low E string. I guess don’t knock it until you try it, but that seems awfully light. The gauges of Rickenbacker set 483 come from set 410, introduced in 1953. Except that set 483 had a wound 3rd and was flatwound. ================================================================ Year Set ...

Re: What's The Attraction To Flatwounds On The 12 Strings?
Can somebody explain the attraction to flatwound strings on Rick 12 strings? In 1964 a Rickenbacker 360/12 would have come from the factory strung with Rickenbacker set 483 which was flatwound, low tension, round core. That is the sound of the Beatles and Byrds on that year. I've been using Pyramid...

Re: Optima flatwounds 4440
John Hall says the old Maxima 4440's were .040, .050, .077, and .112 http://www.rickenbacker.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15631 Unfortunately, Rickenbacker 1977 price list contradicts John Hall. These are the correct gauges for Rickenbacker set 4440. ===========================================...

Re: Original 1982 String Gauges?
When I purchased my 4001 new, back in 1988 (it was made in 1982), it came with ground rounds [...] Does anyone know what the string gauges were for a 4001 made in 1982? Had you bought the 4001 in 1982 it would have been strung with set 4440. But if you bought it in 1988 it would have been strung wi...
