Worn Frets

This is a ? for Mark the Dr. Most of the frets on my 1981 480 have various indents, signs of wear etc. Is a recrowning/dressing in order ? My ear may not be perfect, but I don't notice any buzzing, my intonation seems to be all right, and my guitar pretty much stays in tune once it's acclimated to t...

Thanks again, John Hall. I'll be able to use the Loctite in other applications as well.

Mark, John: Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to try the Locktite (very carefully, thanks to Mark for the heads up on not getting it on the bridge saddles)if I don't have the required nuts handy. I can't express how impressed I am that the CEO himself of Rickenbacker would take the time to answer my q...

Thanks Mark. I'm kind of embarrased that I didn't figure this out for myself. I'll do this next time I change strings (I remove them all and give guitar a cleaning or occasional wax - carnauba only !). After owning "R" tailpieced Ricks for 27 years, I don't have any problems re-stringing. ...

Bridge height adjustment screws

I was wondering if there was anything I could do to keep the bridge height adjustment screws from moving. I've removed the bridge cover to facilitate palm muting (just can't seem to get it right with the cover in place) and I find the screws turning up and out of place. The rubber grommets on the sc...

I had a 1973 480 that was stolen in 1981. I went right out and got a 1981 480 and as I recall, was happier with the 1981 version. Of course, my recollection of the 1973 is fuzzy at best, but the one difference I distinctly remember is that the 1981 high-gain pickups have the little rounded "but...

I've owned two model 480's - a 1973 that was stolen in 1981 and a 1981 that is my only guitar today. Time has dulled my memory of the 1973 but I believe I was happier with the 1981 version when I got it. The playability of this guitar can't be beat (imho) and although it may not have "guts"...
