Re: Need some expert insight on a possible Ric or Ric Faker

Cool thanks guys! Figured as much, the dual TR's and the wavy tuners kind of threw me though. Great Ill tell the guy that its worth about 300ish then. He had some kid that wanted it but wanted to make sure it wasnt anything super valuable before he got rid of it.I Really appreciate the help guys ...

Need some expert insight on a possible Ric or Ric Faker

An older gentlemen that Ive befriended that owns one of the local music stores I frequent pulled this old Ric out the other day. He said he got many many years ago and has no idea what to put it in his shop for. At first I thought vintage Ric, but now after looking at Im not so sure what it is ...

I thought it might be the rods too, but I know its the string. I verified this by playing fretting the interval (B on the E string with my 3rd finger D on the G string with my pinky) and could stop the vibration with my first finger by muting the string. I also had the misses touch the string at ...

You know I thought the paper thing had solved it but I was wrong, it just dampened the whole string. Ive never experienced anything like this on a bass. It only occurs on that one set of intervals and no where else. You can plays those two intervals one fret up or down and the length of the string ...

Ive been looking for an excuse to put flats on my Ric anyway, got them on my P and love them! Been holding back because I don't know how bad it will effect the Ric's versatility. Maybe a flat in the same gauge will cure the prob.

Tried the paper thing and it worked, I think if I switched to a 105 E string the problem might be solved. Sure wish Daddario made a 45-65-80-105 set. Rotosound does, but I dont think they make a nickel version. Not to keen on changing my gauges, I just got the bass tweeked to how I like it!

Thanks Paul, may try sticking some paper around it to try to tighten it up. I also read somewhere that you can build a nut up with superglue. Or of course get a heavier gauge E string!

Sympathetic vibration?

Started learning a tune on my ric that requires you to play a B on the E string and the minor third or D on the G string at the same time. When I do this I get this wierd rattle off of the E string. You dont even have to play both notes at the same time, the E string will vibrate when you fret the B ...

You know that 8 string looks sweet! I noticed in the pics that it appears to have a battery compartment in the back, surely its not active or wasnt active originally right?

Lastnight I tried to remove the pickup from the base plate to put some washers underneath the screws. Those screws are torqued so tight that the screw heads were starting to strip when I tried to loosen them. I didnt want to strip them so my pickup is just gonna have to stay a little loose. Its not ...

I have other basses, a 50's precision and a ho dog jazz bass. I don't play them anymore, there in gig bags in another room in the house. The Ric can do mellow and aggressive in only a way a Ric can do, which to me can be applied to any style of music. I don't find mine to be lacking in the ...

You know I think one Ric is good enough!

For me anyway, every other bass brand that Ive ever owned, I usually found myself going, "Id like to have another with a different PU config, one rosewood one maple necked, a 5 string version, etc.,etc." I haven't had that feeling since I got my Ric, I love everything about it! I think it really ...

Yeah I can see where that would be a problem. For me (mostly finger style player as well) I've kind of learned to rest my thumb on the surround anyway, what screws me up is that I'm used to moving my thumb on the string above the one I'm playing. That's where the cover is kind of a hinderance, it ...
