Anyone know where I could find a set of these tuners or even just one? One of the tuners from my '72 just fell apart last night.
thanks!

Re: Fake, right?
I just bought one of these. How can you tell it's a fake? The one I bought looks much the same but also has MODEL 4001 under Made in U.S.A.

Re: 4001 Truss Rod cover plate
Thank you gentleman. Once again it seems my memory isn't as bad as I thought. The plexiglass is exactly what I remember. It seems though, that I now have the wrong TRC for my bass. I will look into a trade. Thanks again!

4001 Truss Rod cover plate
Greetings to all!
Can anyone tell me the difference between a pre '73 and post '73 truss rod cover?
I just bought one on the "bay" for my 72 4001 and it has raised lettering. I seem to remember the original being transparent plastic and the lettering not being raised. I lost the original a long ...

Re: '73 4001 restoration?
Dude!
You got a 72, not a 73 :)
Way cool. It also makes the difference
as to restoring. Yours has all the cool stuff
for that era. Too bad about the stolen parts, yet
due to the scarcity of them, the price for the correct parts
is warranted.

Re: '73 4001 restoration?
It looks like that bass has already been refinished.
No this guy hasn't been refinished. The only additional finish is on the fretboard from when the frets were removed.
The concern is that I really do not play it and figure I will have to replace most of the original parts to sell it. That ...

Re: '73 4001 restoration?
Thanks for the welcome gentleman!
The serial # is LF 576 I remember buying it in the fall of '73 and it was used. I looked closely at the bridge and it appears to have been routed a bit on the bottom. I guess that renders the instrument firewood?

'73 4001 restoration?
Hello to all. This is my first post here. I have a yellowing 1973 4001 Maple bass that has had some unfortunate modifications during its lifetime.
I no longer play it and am thinking of selling but am wondering if I should attempt to replace the original parts first. The frets have been removed ...
