Re: Rickenbacker 100year Anniversary Model

(...only slightly in jest  ) In light of his recent passing, as well as the historical tie-in... A "David Lindley" signature model "Frying Pan" reissue might be in order. Wouldn't one of the "Panda" models be more appropriate? True that that'd probably be more ap...

And the best part is the price!
AU $4,800.00?!?!?

Wonderful figuring on the fingerboard, and nice clean grain on the body wings!

One from the Register has popped up in my neck of the woods

A friend of mine was visiting the studios of a very big "Regional Mexican" act down here in South Texas... and lo and behold, he sends me a pic of a bass that I correctly guessed was a '73. Turns out, based on the SN he was able to get me (MF 2481), that it's an instrument that's already r...

Re: Pickguard material time-line

I vividly remember thinking that the pickguard on my old '77 4001 looked like "milky glass" when I first received it. Even though it had a beautiful semi-opaque quality to it, you still couldn't perceive the routed cavity beneath the controls. By the time I inspected another new Rick bass ...

Re: Wow! Labella Deep Talkin' Flats on my 4001.

I had a set of LaBella DTF's on my C64S for a long while, and then decided to move to Roto flats. The one thing I remember having to "deal with" was an oily residue that I had to wipe off before loading the strings up. Anyone else run across that same issue? Anyway, seeing this discussion,...

Re: The Rickenbacker Moment That Brought You Onboard

For me, it was seeing a particular picture of McCartney wielding the Rick in a poster that was the reverse side of a thin little magazine that I ran across in a grocery store on my way home from high school one day. I'd started getting into the bass a couple of years before because of the Band On Th...

'Cause this quarantine thing's got me goin' nuts...

Last week, while perusing the YooToob, I happened upon the basic backing track for an old favorite from off of McCartney's Ram album. This backing track was sans vocals and bass, so in the interest of keeping sane during this "time of isolation", I challenged myself to flesh it out....

Re: Rounds or Flats on your Ric bass?

Went a long while with a set of La Bella flats, then switched to Rotosound 77's for their "tauter" feel.
Been wondering lately about whether to try either the Optimas or the Maximas.
(I do love the way red silk pops against the headstock/truss rod cover, though)

Re: Does this look Authentic to you?

I wonder if that center strip is still Shedua? Interesting how, depending on the angle of the light, the strip looks closer to the darker tone we're used to (as in the last pic) as opposed to how light it looks in most of the other photos.
Very pretty speci-mine!
