Re: Good Touch Up Paint for Reissue Silver Tolex Cases?
Thanks Collin - I agree that touching up a major scrape is unlikely to produce a good outcome, but I have had reasonable results doing paint touch ups of small spots on tolex cases where the paint color is a good match. For example, a touch up can be a significant improvement when you are filling in...

Good Touch Up Paint for Reissue Silver Tolex Cases?
It's possible that this topic has been addressed before but I haven't found anything running topic searches. Has anyone identified a silver touch-up paint (brand/color) that is a good match for repairing small scuffs and scrapes on newer, reissue silver tolex cases? Presumably there's an automotive ...

Re: 370-12 Factory Byrd 3 way pickup switch
A slight amendment to my earlier post: It's possible that the stock Switchcraft 12015 switch is missing some readily obtainable standard parts (maybe an extra set of leaves?) that are needed to complete the Byrd switch. I know I used the 12015 switch as the platform for the Byrd switch, but I tackle...

Re: 370-12 Factory Byrd 3 way pickup switch
If you are looking to duplicate a three-way toggle switch for a Byrds-wired 370-12 (the original version, not the version with the built-in compressor), you can do it with a Switchcraft 12015 toggle switch but you need to disassemble the switch to put the spacers and the leaves in the correct config...

Re: Let's stop the serial number madness
Seems to me that, on balance, the virtues of the Register and the wealth of information that it contains (photos of older Rics and Ric components, etc.) outweigh its potential downsides, although as far as serial nos. are concerned the Register contains some obvious errors (typos, etc.), and there i...

Re: I Saw the Holy Grail Today.
I saw [what purported to be!] the original Lennon 325's in the John Lennon Museum in Saitama, Japan before the Museum closed in September 2010. It wasn't clear to me what storage conditions were in place at that venue, but the '58 was in a large display case with other items, and the '64 was standin...

Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
These may well have been posted before, but both photos show JL's Capri sporting the elusive "radio knobs." The top photo was taken on December 8, 1961 (Cavern with Davy Jones); the bottom photo was taken on November 10, 1961 (Tower Ballroom).

Re: 1954 (?) Combo 800 just sold on eBay for $4,249
The serial number (8C 443) makes it the earliest 1954 800 Combo in the Ric Register by two digits (the next one is 8C 445), and there are only a handful of registered 800 Combos to start with. Not clear from the photos what the situation is with the parts, but the bridge cover, TRC screws and pickgu...

Re: Anyone remember "Dark Shadows"?
Strange but true: In the early 1970s I attended junior high for a couple of years in the building that was used for the exterior shots of "Collinwood Mansion."
P.S. And, no, they never played "Monster Mash," not even once.
