R.E.M. tribute

Back in May, I posted in the "Rickenbacker Artists" section an announcement for the R.E.M. tribute that my band was doing. Well, how I have a clip to share. The picture quality is not great--it was shot with a VHS camera--but is good enough for you to see my 360 JG. The audio is a mixture of the ...

Re: MDP as I.R.S. R.E.M.

No video, but we did get photos and an audio recording, Now that I think about it, we should have filmed it!

I'll put the photos and a sound clip or two up when I get them.

Re: MDP as I.R.S. R.E.M.

We had a good turnout for the show last night. We were followed by a two-person, all-acoustic Smiths cover band (it worked better than it sounds like it would). A good night all around.

Chris, here's the set list:

Feeling Gravitys Pull
Begin the Begin
The One I Love
S. Central Rain
Disturbance at ...

MDP as I.R.S. R.E.M. in Philadelphia

My band, Milton and the Devils Party (it's an egg-headed literary reference--call us MDP if you like) is doing an R.E.M. set this Saturday night (May 12) at the North Star in Philadelphia. As my clever subject line suggests, we'll be doing songs from their I.R.S. catalog. If you live close to Philly ...

Re: MDP as I.R.S. R.E.M.

Sorry--I see now that I did post this in the wrong place. I'd never noticed the "Gigs" forum before. I'll put it there. Does anyone know if I can move my original post to avoid duplication?

And re: the setlist; I don't suppose it would hurt to share a bit of it. We'll be doing many of the iconic ...

Re: Do you play differently on your Rickenbacker?

Wow, thanks for posting that Tin Spirits clip. It's great!

I'm not sure I play my Ric differently than I play my other guitars, but I do recall Johnny Marr saying that after playing his 330 JG so much in the early days of The Smiths he put it aside for awhile because he tended to take a certain ...

Re: REM Broke Up!!!

My friend and band mate believes that R.E.M. didn't make another great album after Fables; actually, he thinks that the first half of Pageant is great, the second half not so much. While the simple but soaring solo in "Flowers of Guatemala" and the whole of "I Believe" still send shivers down my ...

Re: 330: any reason why it wouldn't be a good first electric?

But, you can't buy a guitar just based on sound. If you're not comfortable with a guitar, it can leave a pretty sour taste in your mouth.

I agree. A few years ago I went on a guitar-buying-and-trading binge, and ultimately realized that for me, feel is REALLY important. BTW, I ended up ...

Hence he played his 12 string McGuinn model through an entire show
Isn't that a 340/12 that he's playing? That's a great set, by the way. . .

Re: Strings for a Rick 12

Yep, I had TI Flats on both the 360/12c63 and 350/12v63 I owned. I think they're perfect strings on any semi-hollow or hollow body electric. I don't know how to explain it very well, but they "play" much easier than other flats I've tried. Not as heavy feeling, even among similar gauges.

I agree ...

Re: Looking for a good tech in the Philly/NJ area

Allow me to pile on and recommend Chris at POTR. He has set up all the electric guitars I own currently--a 330/6, 660/12, and American Deluxe Telecaster--and all play great and stay in tune like champs. I don't think you'll need a back-up tech/luthier, as he's always been able to work me in to his ...

Re: The Connell's and Rickenbackers

I used to like The Connells quite a bit (especially their Ring album). Never got a chance to see them live. Good to know they were a Rick band (at least early on).

That clip is taken from a concert at Meredith College in 1985 where R.E.M. performed also. Pete plays a 360-12 JG on "S. Central Rain ...
