Re: 330/6 string spacing... hard to get used to it?

Well, Holland, it looks to me that your guy has done what Martin does on their acoustics and spread out the strings at the nut so that they are no longer parallel to the edges of the fretboard. That's fine if it works for you but a lot of us would be poking strings over the edges of the fretboard ...

Re: 330/6 string spacing... hard to get used to it?

One of my reasons for getting a Ric was the neck width and string spacing. Rickenbacker is one manufacturer, maybe the only one, who hasn't monkeyed about with neck widths over the years, although I see that a couple of newer models have crept in with wider necks.

While it's obviously a personal ...

Re: Best bridge with a Bigsby?

Nice reply you got there Kira.

I'd personally get a slab saddle and work from there. Teflon machines quite easily so some handy work with a small hacksaw, a file and a thread tap should work really well.

Re: Best bridge with a Bigsby?

Possibly, but you could easily ground the tailpiece instead of the bridge.

Re: Best bridge with a Bigsby?

I'd call them first but you can probably re-work a Teflon saddle with a file to fit a Ric bridge.

Re: Best bridge with a Bigsby?

I've been through this with Gibson bridges. Bigsby himself recognized the need for the strings to return to their original postion every time the bar was used, otherwise the guitar would soon go hopelessly out of tune. His solution was the "rocking" bridge, which works....to a certain extent.

With ...

Re: Strings!

Hi Ken...thanks.....amazing what you do when you get a new guitar...a midnight blue 330/6 showed up a couple of weeks ago!

If anything, the Snake Oils have lower tension due to a finer core. I'm using an 11 gauge set on this Ric with a wound 18G and it is just 1965 all over again! Somehow these ...

Re: Strings!

Well, well...the good ol' mass string makers. Nothing really wrong with them but you just cannot get the sixties sound without pure nickel wrap. Better...get QUALITY pure nickel wrap. That takes you down two roads.......Pyramid or Snake Oil.

Just spent the 4th re-stringing my 330 with Snake Oils ...
