Re: Strings for 360 12 String?
Has anyone tried elixir 12 string 10-46 gauge? It's got lighter octave strings, an unwound 3rd, and a slightly heavier E and A string than the Rickenbacker brand set. I'd guess this might be troublesome intonation-wise with a 6 saddle bridge, but my 330/12 has a 12 saddle bridge that a previous owne...

Re: 12 String Amp Questions - Fender '59 Bassman vs Vox AC30
My initial concern reading the thread title was, "you might have a hard time getting the desired amount of top end chime/jangle out of the bassman". Then I read the actual post and realised I had wrongly assumed that you were using the top boost channel on the AC30! If you're using the nor...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
I'm not giving up on this 620, but I have got myself another 620 to keep me distracted while I wait for kinkade to get around to fixing this one

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
Don't know how to edit my last post so I'll just post again to add this: It takes me a while to process a lot of information and Kinkade is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to guitar building, wood properties etc. One important bit of info stood out to me once I'd been able to process it proper...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
Just been on the phone to Kinkade to put myself on the list, and had a very informative chat about the possible causes and the best solutions and, in short, his opinion is that leveling the board is the best way to proceed. Regarding heat treatment... He said that usually wood eventually returns to ...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
At this point I think your opinion is very well informed. You've done a lot, learned a lot from this experience. I went back and re-read your initial post -- something I should have done a couple of times earlier. I apologize for getting off tangent, and out in the weeds somewhat. As a last resort,...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
A few years ago, John Hall of RIC noted that this compression of wood does occur and suggested that applying some super glue to the shelf-like area where the washers sit would prevent any further intrusion; it soaks into the wood at that contact point (where the washers sit) and hardens the wood. I...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
That's a tough call to make... waiting three years for the repair work to begin. I think it would be OK (ethically) to put yourself on the list, and then take yourself off if/when you do get the guitar repaired by someone else. There's a good chance you will not find anyone else you feel comfortabl...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
Right: I've spoken to Kinkade today and based on my description he told me that planing the board flat to counteract the warp is about the only thing that can be done, it's expensive, and he's also got a 3 year waiting list, and obviously priority is given to customers who are bringing in guitars th...

Re: TI 12’ers Alert
Totally safe but tonally dull as dishwater. Just my opinion. Try them and let us know what you think. TIs fab on basses. I'm not a fan on 12ers. Hey ho... Thanks for the input - I guess it's worth a try to see if I like them, although I think I'm likely to prefer roundwounds on my 330/12. I did use...

Re: TI 12’ers Alert
My '98 Ric 330/12 came with a pack of these in the case, I haven't dared change the strings yet and i'm not sure if flatwounds are the sound I want, but more importantly - are they safe for the R tailpiece? I'm terrified of tailpiece explosions!

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
I've still not got around to taking the guitar to Mr Kinkade but I'll be giving him a call ASAP. I'm kinda expecting that it's gonna need to have the fretboard planed, which also means a refret/refinish of the fretboard is unavoidable - but I'm willing to go that far to get this guitar playing the b...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
Thanks for the link - if anything that's proof that I should leave that sort of thing to a profesional  I imagined that you would pull the rods all the way out from the body end. It just occurred to me - my 620 has this style of inlay (this is a stock photo from a retailer, not my guitar!): htt...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
I had a thought about enhancing the (forward) bow action of the strings, and that would be to place a small block of wood (maybe a half inch high, wide enough to straddle a couple of frets to avoid marring the fretboard finish) and having the tightened strings go over that block. Place the block wh...

Re: 2008 620 backbow/twist
Several weeks later and - well, it's certainly playable, but it's only improved enough to make the first fret notes sound relatively clean but get choked much more easily when playing harder, and this isn't something that gets fully corrected by raising the action super high, the 'theshold' of attac...
