Re: Amp to go with a Silver Hawaiian? 2020 version

I've found a Sansamp RPM makes a good preamp for steel. I haven't done any playing through speakers though, just headphones. Plenty of options for sound...

Re: How long has it been

Happy birthday RRF!

I joined in 2008, but was a "lurker" for a number of years before. I was even on alt.guitars.rickenbacker WAY back when...

If it had a miscut brass nut then whoever installed that did a poor job. The factory never shipped brass nuts...

Re: Listing of RIC one-offs, Whiskeyglo bass?

OK, I was looking through my pictures and came across a bass described as "Whiskeyglo," I see that it's not on the list of one-offs. Anyone remember this one? What was the story on it, was it a one-off? I can't remember, and searching the forum for Whiskeyglo doesn't seem to turn anything...

Re: New Old Guitars ?

The only real difference would be the warranty. I don't know how it works with distributors in countries other than the U.S., but in the U.S., warranty is based on the date of manufacture, not the date of sale (at least it used to be). So, an older instrument, even though unsold, might be out of war...

Re: History of the 2-piece pickguard

My '81 4003 looks like CJJ's '84, however my body wood doesn't look as nicely figured as CJJ's, that has a gorgeous flame to it. CJJ, It does look like the metal plates that hold the neck are not seating correctly? Those should be flush, at least they are on mine now. Yes, the truss rods are a bit ...

Re: History of the 2-piece pickguard

Just to give a bit more context to the reason for the 2-piece pickguards, here are some pictures of my '84 4003 showing the reversed truss rods. As you can see, there's no way to adjust them from the headstock end...

Re: History of the 2-piece pickguard

It wasn't done to make work on the electronics easier, but rather, to make it easier to adjust the truss rods. The early 4003 basses had the truss rods reversed with the adjustment at the body end...
