Re: Mute screw thread size?
They're the same as the strap pins, Same as the older 'thumbscrew' strap pins, but if I recall the newer locking strap posts are a different thread. How nwere are you talking about? The Schaller buttons fit fine into the '73 4001s I had, even into the '67 4005WB I had, too. you'd have to ask Mr. ha...

Re: 4001 refret before and after
I'm under the impression that if you want to do it as 'correct' as possible then you're looking at a full refin as the frets go in before finish. I think most folks settle for some witness lines at the board/binding, which could be nearly invisible. I also would guess that the majority of refrets lo...

I assume they have the same self-disassembling issues that have killed so many of the wavy version? Love the feel of them when they are in good working order, but so many horror stories.

Re: Bridge/Tailpiece V2 or not?
If the V1 wasn't causing issues for you before the lift, I would stick with that before looking to fix a not broken thing. the v2 is fine and good but 'works' a lot different... kind of 'incorrect' to put it on a vintage reissue imho...like putting an emg in a 60's lespaul.

Re: The "magnet trick"
I'm surprised there hasn't been more toying with magnets, "rubber" isn't exactly what they're raving about over on the bkp or duncan forums, and it seems fairly inexpensive especially when compared to the price of a new pickup. Personally my approach is to start by jacking up the neck pick...

Re: Joe Barden pick-ups on a 4003W
I've installed and heard this, not exactly the same, but still lots of clarity for a humbucker, and ric'ish. for what it's worth the owner of that bass went from stock, to the bardins, then to stock with a nord, and then (and finally) back to the bardens.

Re: 78 vs 79 4001
I'm under the impression back painted plexi covers pop up randomly for at least a few years when they would run out of raised covers at the factory and had to produce more....(I've got a 1980 that has what I believe is a stock backpainted cover). I think the plexi cover remained in place for black a...

Re: Rickenbacker 4001C64S To Trade or Not to Trade?
I nearly flinched on a Club trade recently.... in the end decided I just love my RIC's too much right now, and I figure if I really need a cheap hofner 'fix', I'll pick up a contemporary or ignition and see what the fuss was about first.... cheaper than an ebay horseshoe pickup on a good day.

congrats on the new bass, looks like the tuners have survived, that's a great start! planning on refretting or keeping it fretless?
