Re: Sandberg Rick body shape

Apart from the nice tobacco burst I think its badly proportioned and lacks the grace of the original. I had heard that Sandberg made good quality instruments though.

Great and informative post. I have an S from 86 with magnetized HS and as Pete mentioned earlier I also find it satisfyingly aggressive.

Anyone else think that beautiful JG 4005 would look better with a 2050 headstock shape? No really...

I've only owned two Ricks so far but I would like to add that most brand new Ricks I've seen in music shops were shockingly set-up, most likely from lack of maintenance.

With Ricks its worth researching and gradually learning how to set up the instrument to your liking. An added bonus of Ricks is ...

Not normal in my experience, although I prefer the sound of a toaster to a high gain. I would also suggest changing your strings and possibly lowering the height of the pickup.

That's true Jeff, and seeing as I can't imagine ever selling this beauty I might just leave it as is. Good luck finding one yourself.

My sympathies Jeff. I'm also looking for one to replace the odd black trc that came with my 86 4003S. It has the words 'made in USA' printed upside down. When I tried to get it replaced a year or so ago I was told by Rickenbacker that they didn't have any black trcs left...

Looks nicer with the white imo, mostly because the black pickguard doesn't meet the black treble pu surround and emphasizes the awkward shape between the two. The edge of the white pg where the nobs are also follows the outer curve of the body better (something I think should be brought back to new ...

I agree. I find the V63s way over priced, but because I don't favour the reversed C64 headstock they are my only option when buying a vintage reissue Ric bass.

I also find it strange that some 4001v63s and 64s have a pickguard that doesn't quite touch the edge of the bridge pickup surround and some fit perfectly. But perhaps that's a naeive way to look at a factory made instrument.

Thanks Darren, will do. Alas I won't be shipping my dear old 4003S over for a long time, so I'll definitely need some recommendations for picking up a Rick soon after I get there.
