Big Guitars...
I've always been a big Evan Johns & Big Guitars From Texas Fan. Here's a good 'un from the mid-80's...gotta love the duds! Oh, and what's Frankie Camaro playing?

Re: 4003 Truss Rod issue
Thanks for the replies and the link to the more indepth discussion! I flipped the E/A rod over this morning and the bow at 15th fret is now gone on both sides of the neck. Baby bow at 3rd fret is still there although fretboard grain looks OK to my eye, FWIW. We'll see how it settles in over the next ...

4003 Truss Rod issue
I have an '88 4003 with an odd neck issue. Neck is fairly flat from the nut to about the 15th fret, where there is a visible bow - upward so that the nut end is higher relative to the 15th fret. No amount of truss rod adjusting has ever altered that bow but it actually sets up fairly well with the E ...

Re: Have you no shame?
Yeah, I'd pay that much... if it includes the toggle switch ruined by the guy who solders a 30-06 brass rifle bullet on in place of the plastic cap.

Re: Discount Chromes ?
There's been a good bit of discussion about this on another forum...
I like Chromes and picked up a set of the "new" Fender flats to see for myself. I can't say whether they're identical to Chromes in composition, but they're close enough for my purposes. I'll be saving a few bucks per set. :)

Re: D'Addario Chromes Recommendation
I've been very happy with ECB81 Chromes on both 4001 and 4003. I've tried TI's and LaBellas in similar gauges but really prefer the Chromes over either for what I'm doing. Have not yet tried Pyramid flats.

Wow, what a tough road that bass has taken and what a great intro from a new member! Looking forward to seeing your progress with this project, Edo. You have a good eye - the maple body on that one is beautiful.

Re: How Low/High Is Your Action??!
Sounds like I like the action lower than the average bear, but I also like super skinny necks. I measured the '80 4003 and it was 2mm for the E and about 1.85mm for the G. I am getting some buzz on D & G so I think that end of the bridge needs to be raised a froghair. The action on the '88 4003 isn ...

Re: 4003 Owners, Please Share Your Favorite Bass Settings
For most of the stuff the band is playing now, I use one of two settings, both of which use both PUP's. If I am playing the tune mostly high up on the fretboard, I roll off the bridge PUP some (maybe to 80%) and roll off the tone on that PUP about 1/2 way. If the tune is played primarily down on the ...

Thanks. I was just curious and thought other new(er) members may be wondering the same things. Yes, I can see all four categories, providing I remember to login!
