That's great! So much love for Ampeg. I knew I wasn't alone in my appreciation for these old tanks.
That V4 head is calling my name clear across town.
Well, Kira... I know of a good tube amp tech not too far from you... With your continued access to those classic amps coming into question ...

Re: Best guitar amp with ricks for garage/punk/grunge music?
Thanks one and all :) This is great.
Soon I'll make a list and show you guys what I have to work with. Oh, correction: The Fender head is a Showman, not a Bassman.
There is an old saying: "Want to make the owner of a small club nervous? Just show up with a Showman amp..."

Very nice work! Props to Paul W. for "sharing the wealth" vis-a-vis his extensive knowledge of finishing/re-finishing techniques.

Re: Expanding My Horizons...
You may be right... Kira may be taking the "avoiding temptation" approach to things. With that recently acquired ES335 to get into shape, this course of action would make sense. Of course, not all of us are sensible.

No hi-jack at all... Nice "twang machines" you have there!
My '57 Duo re-issue is a very early FMIC Gretsch [Jan 2003] and some of the minor details are a little bit "off" vis-a-vis the originals, but I really like it! Those Dynas are great, pretty "hot" pickups; much more punch than a FilterTron ...

Re: Expanding My Horizons...
Great story, Kira. Like a lot of us, I suspect you have a list of the ones that "got away" and you wish you had back. Now that bare wood in no longer in, I suspect an eventual trip to Paul W. would have been in the cards...

Kira, are you saying your former Gretsch was "Lennonized" like a certain stripped down Epi Casino that comes readily to mind?kiramdear wrote:Holy Molee, Jim, my old model could have been one just like those, but mine was all stripped down and ugly. I loved it!

Kira, you're not alone in GASsing for a Gretsch. There are three that I really like, any one of which I'd be pleased to own: G6120AM , or G6118T , and I really like this one . What a hoot!

 Aw, man, you guys are going to make me buy a Gretsch now. Just when I had my GAS down to a simmer ...
Well... this fellow kind of started out his pro career with a Duo Jet and went back to Gretsch, some two decades [more or less] later.

Re: Best guitar amp with ricks for garage/punk/grunge music?
How large a venue are you thinking of, Kira? I second the Deluxe Reverb RI comment, if you are in a smaller club, or can get the amp miked into the house mains; DRRIs can sound great clean, and can dirty up really well with the right tubes installed. An early silver face DR, if the cost is in the ...

Re: 1967 Gibson ES 335
Hey, Kira:
That nice Gibby ES335 has a trapeze tailpiece... a Bigsby B7 would look just right on there; piece of cake to install, and it would give you a whole new set of options, tone wise. Have you given that possibility any thought?
Just wondering...
