I felt the same about my ric after I bought it, took about 4 months to get it "Right", constant tweaking, trying different guages and brands of strings. Three years later I cant believe I thought it was ****, now its the best bass I've ever owned, took a while to bed in, but now its just perfect ...

This definatly is a very good forum with great, helpfull, knowledgable and above all, Patient members, its great knowing that people here can understand ones frustration and not start biting back when you get angry with your ric. I agree, even though I'm having big issues with my 4003 at the moment and almost hate the thing they are magical instruments. I DO love the way they sound, feel and look. I seem to have sorted the massive neck issues that I've been suffering with but I guess time will tell.
I got my eye on a 70's ...

Yes, Heavy guage as in 105/85/65/45 ok more medium/heavy. I currently play 100/80/60/40's. They intonate perfectly, unlike the low quility(imho)Ric strings that came on the bass. They are what seems to be a softer compound stainless than what is commonly found on the like of Rotos which eat frets so ...

Well seeing as I've got no luck getting hold of a new rod I decided to take matters into my own hands and use my own mechanical initiative. I heated up the bent rod and straightened it out about halfway between straight and how much it was bent. I then swapped the rods around and put the rod that ...

Hi Ted. I checked that too. If I look down the profile of the neck it is slightly more bowed that it needs to be. I've double checked to see if the neck is twisted but it looks ok. I'm pretty certain that its the Bass side Rod, when I removed it is was Heavily bowed, I mean nearly a full half circle ...
