Silencing the Hum...

Hey everyone, I have a 2004 4003 Ric that produces a noisy hum. It is not a ground issue, it is a shielding issue. I have procured the copper tape for the back of the pickguard, shielded wiring, and the conductive paint for the cavities. As I am new to this process, I am wondering if anyone knows a ...

Re: Ground problem, need help..

Thank you, and your suggestions would make very good sense if all 6 of my basses had the hum, but as I said, it is isolated to the Ric.

Re: Ground problem, need help..

Ok, after taking the suggestions from the two previous posters, (Thanks Guys!) I have determined that there is good ground all over. So then I plugged into a guitar amp I have with a polarity switch on it. One way Noisey hum, other way, as quiet as one would expect from single coil pups. So now it ...

Ground problem, need help..

Hey everyone, I seem to be having a grounding issue that I cant resolve. Got a good solder connection under the pickguard, have a good ground pinched between the bridge and body, but still have that irritating ground hum that goes away when I touch the bridge, tuning keys, or strings. Its a 2004 ...

Volume control issue...

Hello, I have noticed that my treble volume knob does not function the full range of motion. It seems to start working about 3/4 of the way through. Is this typical? Is there a fix?. It makes it very difficult to set proper volume control in such a short turn of the knob. Any suggestions?

Re: Hi, new here..1st Ric, 1st post..

Welcome Koy,

Great bass, cool mods, and nice collection. I'm sure the 4003 will more than hold its own against some of your aother great basses.
Thanks! I have had it about a week now, and its certainly making an impact! I can see where it will get a "top" ranking from me.
Going to be tough for ...

Re: Hi, new here..1st Ric, 1st post..

I'm just about to add a Black brass Hipshot to my 4003-S, looking forward to trying an hearing it !

Cool! Just a quick reference. There are ZERO instructions included. Might as well get you a cheapie tap & die set ready to go. You will need it to setup a good permanent ground. Hipshot says to ...

Re: Hi, new here..1st Ric, 1st post..

+1 on the aluminum hipshot. Truth is, I really liked the original bridge assembly and didn't want to pay to change it out. However, in my case even with the bridge bottomed out, the action was higher than I liked. The replacement allowed for finer tuned adjustments. But, there is no way I would ...

Re: Hi, new here..1st Ric, 1st post..

Thanks!
Yes Kira, never thought about using a Guitar amp for the treble side. Just tried it with an old vintage Peavey Artist tube amp along with my Ampeg B2R & 4X10. Tossed a little chorus delay in on the peavey and it was great fun. What a magnificent tool! Opens up the already versitile 4003! I ...
