Re: It’s 2025, what flats you like best on your Ric bass.
I have "Thomastik-Infeld JF344 Jazz Flatwound Bass Guitar Strings - .043-.100 Long Scale" on my 1971 4000/4001 and they have too low tension, especially the "A" string, for my feel ...

Re: Old hairpin truss rods
It's not the rods that need adjustment. It's the wood. The rods are simply the tool to make the adjustment to the wood. The older instruments that have never needed adjustment have stable wood. No seasonal variations in temperature and humidity? Likely the wood isn't going to expand or shrink. No ...

Re: Old hairpin truss rods
Yes, I have an April 1973 4001 JetGlo that I bought used in 2001 that I have seldom played since and I swear the neck relief has remained exactly the same since! The previous owner, who bought it used in 1977, claims he never had the neck adjusted, also. This is just amazing! There has GOT to be ...

PMs not appearing in my OUTBOX !?
PMs, including one sent to ADMIN, aren't appearing in my PM OUTBOX. I assume that members aren't receiving them, also?

Re: The good old days
Summer 1987, Red Bank, NJ a music store had a FireGlo 1964 4001 for sale for around $600, or maybe more.
Reno, Nevada, June 1991, a music store not too far outside of Reno had a mid-1960s FireGlo 4001 for sale for $900.
I had to pass on both. DIdn't have the cash.

Re: New Ric bass?
NOT a 4005 = NOT XXX5
short scale bass = 3XXX
short scale bass w/2 pups = 3XX1
360 shape = 360X or X360
Added together = 3361

Re: When was horsehoe pickup discontinued on 1960s' 4001 bas
Thanks again for the input. (I had the bridge pup cover removed. There was no horseshoe pup.) It was stolen out of my car around Dec. 79/Jan. 1980. When I dig further thru my papers I may find the exact date it was stolen and maybe more info. Why I thought it was a 1968 had to have something to do ...

Re: When was horsehoe pickup discontinued on 1960s' 4001 bas
Thanks for all the responses. Things still aren't making sense.
I have a JG MD. I'm getting 13 1/8" across widest part of the bout, which cuts across the forward edge of the teeth of the bridge, BUT, the pickguard goes to the edge of the body by the jackplate. The body of the FG in my pics does ...
