Re: New from Studio Z--"Wichita Lineman"

Hope I'm not going to stir up a controversy, but Carol Kaye has several times stated that Glen Campbell borrowed her Danelectro 6-string bass for either Galveston or Wichita Lineman (or maybe both - I forget).

Re: Brit Invasion

Thanks from me too, Roy! As so many others said, great to see Jackie de Shannon looking so good - and quite a shock to see Burdon and Peter Asher, to name but two, looking so old... Anyone know where the (60s) film of Graham Nash and Peter Noone arguing came from? I've never seen it before, and it's...

Re: original v hit rides again

I see from Wikipedia that Louise Cordet is the goddaughter of Prince Philip - now there's a bit of trivia for you all!! Horrible performance, and sorry to say horrible production. And yes, my favourite Gerry Marsden song is the one about the boat ride... For some reason I find that his voice, ...

Re: Another rarity

Nice version, and very good guitar, whoever it is.
I guess if you had to pick the song that all of us who ever perform(ed) in public have played at some time, this would be the one :D

Re: ORIGINAL V HIT

Ah, poor old Eric Haydock. Nobody could find a bass for him to play on during the lip sync of this video?
Fender Bass VI - it was good enough for Jack Bruce... (not to mention John and George :) )

Re: And Your Top 25???

A "must" UK candidate - don't blame me for the video, by the way, but it seems to be the only one with the original record...
Also, the "embed" trick doesn't seem to work, so you'll just have to click on the link... :)

Re: The Soul Pad

Interesting, that rhythm player with Ike & Tina - he switches guitars, obviously to one with an open tuning, and then plays "overhand", almost as if he were a steel player. Anyone know who he is, or anything about him?

Re: Paul's Hof

Actually, I think that is a foam or cloth mute in front of the bridge. You can see it quite clearly on the "Revolution" video. A technique of which Carol Kaye, for one, is a great proponent. Personally, I prefer to just use the heel of my hand against the bridge. Seems to be something Paul...

Jackie Lomax - again

Interesting article here http://www.spinner.com/2010/11/05/jackie-lomax-sour-milk-sea/ The article makes it all sound a bit negative. However, on another forum, someone who is in fact an original member of the Undertakers wrote: "Even if so-called 'fame' has eluded him, Jackie has been true to ...

Paul McC Tech Trivia Question

I read on another forum that Paul used (uses?) felt picks to play the bass. Seems odd to me - anyone know for sure :?:

Re: The Searchers Meet Tim Rice

I'm noy sure that at the time of Chris or Tony, the concept of "owning the name" really occurred to anybody, Roy. It was only later, as bands began to split and different members formed new bands, that the question arose. Were the various Byrds disputes the first example of this ? Not sure...

Another difficult choice. I'm finally leaning to Guy Mitchell - Tommy's Elvis imitation gets a bit irritating!

Re: US V UK 19

Difficult choice - neither of these would be my favourite version of this song, although at the moment I can't think who else did it - Mamas & Papas, maybe? anyway, I definitely feel there are better versions of what can be a very nice song, in the right hands... between these two, I'll go for t...

Re: US V UK 18

Ha! I'd completely forgotten the Bachelors even did that, let alone that they went to No.3 with it! I suspect you're going to get a 100% vote Roy (unless of course someone just decides to be awkward  ) - I have to go with S&G as well.
