Re: Squire's other basses
Thanks, Miguel! I only just noticed that Chris's sleeve is reflected in the mirror finish.

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
I did. It's only paint, and a bit bashed, but it's been like that for about 20 years now.

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Gosh, I've been away for yonks, maybe spending too much time playing my Wal bass. Not long after lockdown started last year, everyone was all worked up about being marooned at home, missing the office, and facing the prospect of working from home for "maybe as long as three months!" My 'lo...

Re: Squire's other basses
A bit of thread necromancy here (and a bit of forumite necromancy, too: hello! - it's been a long time), but over on Twitter I see Geoffrey Mason posted some Yes pics taken in 1969. Chris is playing a blue Rickenbacker that looks like the RM dot neck but on a regular 4001 body...but it's painted dif...

Re: The 21 Fret 4001 Basses Thread
Since this thread has seen a bit of necromancy, I thought I would add to it. Lemmy had a 21-fretter too, in fireglo with a Gibson Thunderbird pickup. I presume it was his; he was pictured with it on the front cover of Bassist magazine, back in June 1999.

How to record guitar (or bass) on the computer?
This is so ridiculously simple a subject to many of you I know, so you can have a wee laugh at my ignorance – but I really need something better than my Logitech webcam for making recordings. The video side isn't (that) bad, but as for the audio? Good heavens no, it's much too sensitive, and is pron...

Re: Make my 4003 Meaner
Using 70's 4001 pickups will help a little bit, but not much. What about the treble pickup base? On mine (a high gain, I presume?) it was made of black nylon (possibly glass-reinforced nylon, but still just plastic), so I replaced it with a steel one to get more metal and magnetism and everything, ...

Re: Rush Exit Stage Left Geddy Lee
I've never really heard what he has under that cover. I'd really like to know though. You can almost see it in one of the camera shots on the video for No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed. The original single coil pickup sits pretty low in the body. The pickup under the hand rest is just...

Jetglo or Burgandy? http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=668015#p668015 to wit: Martin Turner visited me when I was selling my '73 BG/ EPG a couple of years ago, and told me he has wanted another 4001 that colour, since his original was broken at the headstock, when being unloaded from...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Here's me, same as the old me really! Still doing my best to tear it up on my 1995 JG 4003. I think I was part of the way through Safe (canon song).

Master of Time
Setting sail
Over all of our lands
And as we look
Forever closer
Shall we now bid
Farewell farewell
Goodbye Chris.

We're all yet to mourn his passing.
So let's start by celebrating the heck out of the guy at 3pm Phoenix time.

Re: 4001CS's On EBay
Two up so far, which itself is uncommon. I suspect a few more may come up due to our heros' passing Sunday. I would have expected the reverse, and that 4001CS owners would want to hang on to them even more. But yes, I suspect some less scrupulous owners will want to seize on the immediate increase ...

Re: Chris Has Passed On....
I haven't been posting on here for quite some time, and this is hardly the way to return. After seeing Miguel's #playforsquire on YT I was actually having a rare attempt at my own embarassingly rusty small contribution. Alas I was too late. I heard the news at lunchtime yesterday, and as shocked and...

Re: Chris Squire trivia: From the Revealing to the Wonderous
Apart from 2/3rds of the Union album which may not count, it would have to be .. "Run through the light" from Drama, which had Trevor Horn doing a great job on a fretless bass.... (Chris played the electric piano on this one) Which one of Chris' NON bass guitars wound up in a very promine...
