What is replacing the C64?

When the 4001C64/C64S was cancelled earlier this year, Ric announced that the series was being phased out because of "overlap with coming products", or something to that effect. Has there been any speculation on what, if anything, might be replacing the 4001C64 in Rickenbacker's bass lineup? Thanks ...

Re: 4003 vs 4001c64

What do you mean "shoes are bent up"? ??
Robert -
See photo - on the left is a 2009 C64, on the right is a 2000 V63. At least on mine, the shoes on the V63 are flat (parallel) with the face but the C64 are slightly "bent upwards". Why this is will have to be explained by one of the more seasoned ...

Re: Heel block – V63 vs. C64

Here's the front view of both basses. V63 on the left, C64 on the right. The wings appear to be glued at about the same place on the neck.

Heel block – V63 vs. C64

I was comparing the build of my '00 V63 and '09 C64 and noticed that the heel block is significantly larger on the V63 (left side in the photo). Anyone know why? And which is closer to the original 1999? Thanks in advance, Bill

Re: Model of the Week Ten: The 4001V63

Thanks for the pictures! Anyone notice that Paul's truss rod cover has been changed? The original one in the picture with the Fireglo finish is longer and has no "Made in U.S.A." near the nut. The shorter truss rod cover causes the headstock to appear longer.

Hi Jim -
That probably happened ...

Re: Model of the Week Ten: The 4001V63

The difference in V63 headstock shapes wouldn't look as drastic if the reissue TRCs weren't so dang long. The late '90—'00 V63s where the TRC almost touches the top of the headstock make me cringe for some reason.

I agree, Wes. If the TRC were shorter, the headstock would 'look' longer. At least ...

Re: Model of the Week 23: Just what is a PMC?

Could it have been a transitional piece to the 4001C64 series?
The right-handed V63 I recently acquired was originally sold in Japan in 2000, and has similar features to the PMC including a black nut and nickel reverse tuners. I've wondered why it was built that way (as have others on this forum ...

Macca's zero fret

These questions have undoubtedly been asked before, but I'm new here... so thanks in advance to the regulars for your indulgence -

What is the story behind the zero fret on McCartney's Ric? Did it have the zero fret added years later? Early photos seem to show the bass without a zero fret.

Is this ...

Set neck vs. neck-thru

Are there any tonal differences in the 4001S models that were made with a set neck versus those made with the more common neck-thru construction? Have the set necks held up in both value and construction, and why were so few made?
Any info would be appreciated, I'm new to Rickenbacker. Thanks in ...
