Rewired like Jazz Bass?
I'm shopping for a Cheyenne as a graduation gift for my son. Seeing several Internet items where this bass (or other Ricks?) were rewired like a Jazz Bass. What's this all about?

Think twice before acting...
I really disliked the laquered fretboard on my 660/12 when I first got it, having played an unlaquered Les Paul and Jazz Bass for all these years. It felt "sticky" to me, or at least the friction between my skin and the board was higher. After playing the Rick steady ...

Perhaps if R-O-S was, like a TV show, quietly "not renewed," the problem would be over and done before anyone knew. My 660-12 never had R-O-S but big deal! I plug it into my ME-33 for comp. and stereo chorus, then run the stereo outputs into my stereo amp and I'm none the wiser for not having ROS ...

Rick acousting with a cutaway?
I play in a semi-acoustic group in pubs and clubs in the Frankfurt, Germany area. The reason I say semi-acoustic is that whenever a 12 is called for - and that is for 60% of our songs - I end up having to play my 660/12 through a pedal and a simulated acoustic effect or a "pickup-ed" Taylor 12 ...

I tried three or four different brands on my 660-12 and liked Rick rounds the best. On his instructional video Roger McGuinn says he uses them too, though his web site said he uses Pyramids.
I found Pyramid flats to be like playing steel bars they were so stiff. I've been playing bass and guitar ...

March 2001: Was planning on putting together a small band with my friend after he arrived at post later that summer. He was just passing through in March so showed him my favorite local music store. I'd already been shopping for an electric 12 but thought a Rick would be too expensive for the amount ...

I live in Frankfurt, Germany and have had to slightly tweak the truss rods on my 660/12 last spring, and again last month (September). I'm not sure it has to do so much with humidity as with how I store it. It usually hangs on the wall but lately (while my wife's be in the states for a few months) I ...

I agree re the Rick strings - they are a little noisier than the Pyramids. And, looking at the earlier posts above, I had to re-intonate my guitar (660/12) when I switched from the Pyramid flats (also from an earlier post). I like the Rick strings better than the Pyramids (I can hear the cries of ...

Hard Day's Night - for the "how-the-hell'd-they-do-that-factor" at the time! Other than that distinctive opener, there are too many to pick from! I'm having a blast just running through every song I've ever learned on my new 660/12! Adds a whole new sound, like hearing them for the first time all ...

Think carefully: The Pyramid strings that came on my 660/12 had that classic Byrds sound but the hand-to-string friction was something different than I'd ever felt before, having never used flat wounds. They were also extremely stiff to play. Have a set of Rick strings on it now and had to "intone ...

Based on what I read in interviews with George Martin, they didn't really think "stereo" until after the '64-to-early '65 height of their Rickenbacker period. More or less pre-Revolver, the songs were mixed with mono singles in mind. The early stereo mixes were done mostly with vocals on one side ...
