Re: 4001 Bridge pickup question

Those are just to give a little extra clearance for the cover when you have it on. No cover? No need. I have literally substituted those by stacking up a couple of picks with a hole drilled in the middle hacked down to a roughly circular shape, too, so the OEM bushings aren't really worth the troubl...

Re: 4003 fret advice needed.

The frets do look fine to me too. The most pronounced effect of worn out frets is buzzing, but they have to be munched in deep enough to do so. If you feel your frets could use a level, though, it's not hard to do if you understand the principles of it. For tools, your truss rod wrench, the appropri...

Re: Leo Quan Bad A** II Bridge Install

That sounds like a good idea to me. The BA bridges are nice. I have never put one on a ric, but i have swapped two of my stock ric bridges (1976 and 2016) for Schaller rollers (my favourite) and they turned out better than i could have hoped. Instead of covering the hole with a surround, i like to f...

Take it for a spin on spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/38pv9AFUXxIBtUQqC2tKlA?si=kOEDBVO8RvCJb7a2LJDIfQ&dl_branch=1 Jonah (keys) was the main writer of this one - lots of late-era beatles influence. Independent, raw, psychedelic, some studio tricks. 3 tracks were done on a rickenbacker ba...

Has anyone here played a pre-1960 4000?

Hello there everyone - i was just starting this thread to quench a bit of curiosity of mine, and perhaps even a few others. For a good while now, I have wondered what the earliest 4000 basses were like, especially the mahogany-necked examples. On the lowest level I have always been visually attracte...

Re: And so it begins ....

That's looking great! So great, in fact, that this thread was what finally pushed me to make an account over here. Congratulations. Larry does very fine work. Loved the reset technique, I've always been curious about his method for that. To Dirk's question about revealing the binding, not to "s...
