Re: Maximum string gauge with which hardware?

That has a three-screw tailpiece, just sayin'.

No longer  I had a brass Hipshot installed, mainly because I wanted more bass response. As it also turned out, tone is more even across the fingerboard. And it also is nice having more room left between the PU and the bridge.

(May the guys ...

Maximum string gauge with which hardware?

Does anyone happen to know what are the maximum string gauges useable – without modification – with (a) the standard bakelite saddle, (b) the Hipshot Rickenbacker Pre-2020 Replacement Bridge 5RK400BC Brass/Chrome?

Many thanks in advance :)

Re: Official Prediction Thread- C series replacement

You don't want a Rick, you want an Alembic

Otherwise, don't let yourself be mislead by such an incomplete feature list (which about equally well could be said to overlap with e.g. that of some of Tobias, Marleaux or Sandberg basses). The typical (and variations thereof) RIC sound ...

Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 6

Thanks for the welcome! :)

Admittedly, I'm slightly confused... The PDF, at least in the version I've downloaded, contained two drawings: "Treble Pickup Assembly", which clearly is some version of the the hi-gain PU, and "Vintage Treble Pickup Assembly", of which I had liked to assume that it was ...

Re: Official Prediction Thread- C series replacement

Discontinuing a model thats not moving very well and concentrating on the backlog makes sense. We all would like them to make everything available all the time, but thats not very likely is it ?

Concentrating on the backlog for now, keeping QC tight, and maybe a new design / designs for when this ...

Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 6

This is the HS that came in my '85 V63

Interesting. These look like flat pole pieces whereas the HS VRI on my '02 C64 has staggered ones.

Btw, the info I had so far was that the HS VRI cover neither could nor should be removed . So how can it be done then? :D

Otherwise, as for my taste, the C64 ...

Re: The bridge thread.....let's be nice and civil....

If 7-bolt tailpieces kill the tone, a Hipshot would even more, because both add surface contact to the body of the bass, only the Hipshot does moreso. Personally I think that's why they add such a kick to a lot of the low frequencies but I can't be sure.

Sonic coupling is improved. The improved ...

Re: E String - 100 vs. 105

I may in time put a set on my 4003 - trouble is, maybe the ligter set would take the bit of bottom it has?

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Actually, D'Addario XL together with Pyramid Stainless Steel Roundwounds, LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass Roundwounds, Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Bass Roundwounds ...

Re: E String - 100 vs. 105

If so, does the 100 gauge E suit the sound of the Ric better?

There's a lot more relevant production parameters than just diameter of the final product, like e.g. alloys and coatings used (a real plethora of possibilities), shape of both core (hexagonal vs. round) and windings (flat vs. round vs ...
