Re: 4004L 4-2-5 further modified
Thanks for your interest Brian, I sent you a PM. I also listed the bass over here because I want to see what is the best offer I could get in the next 2 weeks from the Rick Resource members: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=396285

Re: Recommendations for 4003 project
I just posted about how I'm unhappy with my 4004L (looking to sell, check out that thread), but I wanted to let everyone know I am seriously pleased with my 4003. It has the real Rickenbacker TRC on there now (lifted from the 4004L), so it looks awesome, but what really makes it awesome is the sound ...

Re: 4004L 4-2-5 further modified
Well, the 4004L 4-2-5 has turned out to be quite an albatross...for both me and my luthier. He hooked up my Audere preamp with the low-Z mode and the pickups Sergio made, but it really doesn't sound right for sub-contra. My Fernandes Gravity 5 deluxe sounds better for sub-contra, but still not ideal ...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Looks like you had fun, but where's the food?
Play in a band or deliver pizza, hmm, tough choice, there.  There must be plenty of drummers around there so you guys should be rocking in no time, I hope. :)
BTW, we both have great Jewish last names, eh?

Re: 4004L 4-2-5 further modified
Basson B410B cabinet. It's rated down to 28 Hz, but it can definitely handle way lower than that. Garry Goodman, who is the foremost expert on sub-contra bass (his string site is www.octave4plus.com) had Basson build him a special cabinet that was touted to do a 17 Hz low C#, they even sold it for a ...

Re: 4004L 4-2-5 further modified
Looks like Sergio just finished the custom pickups, and I have Garry Goodman making a custom .175 string as I'm going to see if I can string it .175, .135, .105, .85, .65 and tune it E0, A0, D1, G1, C2. I'm going to do the same thing with my Fernandes Garvity 5 Deluxe and see which one is more ...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Playing it at the synagogue? 8)
Playing it at a Vort (engagement party) at someones house here in Monsey, NY (pic on page 278). That's where I met my guitarist. He is sick, I'm talking virtuouso level. He can play Page Page level stuff and play some 24-note crazy scale in 2 seconds. He invited me ...

This is a 4004L I used to have, you can't really see it so well in the pic though.

Re: 4004L 4-2-5 further modified
I have seen 4004cii/5 with changed pickups (real pickups 5 strings)
Maybe, this is the best solution.
But a 4004cii/5 is difficult to find, and it's and expensive.
I don't understand because Ric. don't make a 5 string.
I was looking at the specs on the 4004cii/5 on the Rickenbacker website, and ...

Re: 4004L 4-2-5 further modified
I can see where you're coming from because my left hand does seem to wear out faster when I play a typical 5-string with 1 7/8" spacing at the nut vs a 4-string with 1 1/2" spacing at the nut, but if the strings are too close, it gives me problems. I played 6-string guitar for a long time, and after ...

Re: Faker on eBay
I saw a 2005 4004Cii 4-2-5 conversion in Translucent red go for less than $1100 on eBay in the last 2 months. I'd imagine you could find some other real Rics going in that price range, what kind of sucker would pay $1100 for a Univox with a cracked neck.

Re: Ric Mod questions
Any opinion on hi-gain vs. toaster? Which do you prefer, etc.?
It's a matter of taste, I actually did a 4003 mod with a toaster for the neck and a high gain for the bridge: http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=389721

Re: 4004L 4-2-5 further modified
I am curious and interested,
But I have a doubt on the 1st string at the end of the neck.
Do you mean it looks like the G string is off the neck, because I can assure you it's not. In fact, even though the bridge spacing was listed as 2.5", which would come out to 16mm string spacing, I rolled ...

Re: Recommendations for 4003 project
Maybe it means he painted it black, but since it didn't come like that from Rickenbacker, it's not technically Jetglo. I have that going on with my 4004L 4-2-5: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=392561

Re: Recommendations for 4003 project
If I tap the strings on the poles it gives that sound, so that's exactly what it is. I don't really want to raise the action any higher, so one fix that might even out the pickup volumes a little as well would be to lower the bridge pickup. The bridge pickup is actually a little higher in impedance ...
