I became interested in Rickenbackers when I ran across "Evil Bob"'s website, Rickenbacker Planet (IIRC the title... or is my memory that bad?) in the early days of wandering ...

According to the RIC manual, it is an oil finish:

FWIW, I used pure tung oil from The Real Milk Paint Company to clean/polish a 650S that I once had. It was very dirty when I got it, but it cleaned up great.

FWIW, the applicable table in the Smith book lists 5 JG and 20 NC (no color indicated on invoice) 950s for 1957.

I checked my 460 and 481 switch tips, and they are 8-32 threads. Oddly enough, I checked the switch tip on my Epiphone JL Revolution Casino (the linited edition version), and it also is a 8-32 thread.
