Re: Odd duck 4001FL on the way!

... The new tuners are chrome vs the nickle of the originals. I’ll see if some muriatic acid will take the chrome off and closer match the nickle. ... Not sure, but you might need an oxidizing acid (sulfuric or nitric) to remove it ... "Damn it Jim, I'm an organic chemist, not an inorganic che...

Re: New 325c64 TRC screws

I don't have one, but the 325c58 I used to have had slotted screws, so I would think that the c64 would also have them.

Could be a supply-chain issue, depending on when the guitar was built.

... 2) Failing that, it likely needs either heat treatment to straighten it out (it's only minor, and I've seen old posts from John Hall saying that Rickenbackers generally respond very well to this) or even just some fret leveling. I don't think it's gonna need anything as drastic as having the bo...

Re: Odd duck 4001FL on the way!

I can't make out the date codes on the potentiometers ... do they match up with the putative date code on the jack plate? FWIW, I had a similarly anomalous mid-to-late-70s bass, a 4001 in Walnut. The jackplate had only a date code, no number: P8240032.JPG IIRC, the jack plate date code did not match...

Re: Variac or Step up transformer?

FWIW: oddly enough, I may be one of those here with a lot of experience with variacs ... except not in the context of music. In chemistry, they are used to control motors (e.g. stirrers) or heating mantles, as shown in this picture: P3091467A.jpg In this application, the variac was controlling the v...

Re: Good Speaker Reconing Shop

Glad to hear!

FWIW, the factory speaker in both of my Kustom '36 Coupes is a 12" "KEI" (Kustom-Eminence-Integrated) speaker that is definitely a keeper.

Re: Fran's 360 12

The second video contains a some incorrect information. If the finish of the 360/12 in question is indeed nitrocellulose, it's a refinish, as the factory was using CV during that era. I'm also not certain that nitrocellulose age-degrades with the release of "nitric acid" ... it's more like...

Re: Good Speaker Reconing Shop

You might get in touch with these folks: http://www.speakerrepairpros.com/ Based on the information on the website, they are former employees of Orange County Speaker Repair, which went out of business in 2016, and with whom I had experience with repairing speakers. They have a section on how to pac...

Poll: whether or not to post pictures that are now missing

I have noticed that a lot of older threads have lost their pictures, e.g., my posts of pictures from NAMM 2004: https://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41467&hilit=NAMM I assume that this happened when the server change-over happened. So, I was wondering whether it would be worth my t...

What "Comment" feature are you referring to? In registry listings. Each entry has a box for comments, in addition to the basic item information. Is this part of the listing not publicly visible? I can only see the comment if I go to edit the entry, not when viewing the listing. O.K., I se...

I assume that they have tried to register through the normal means, but it's not working, e.g.

Both Peter and Gil should be notified if this isn't working. 8)
