Re: Remember Amplifier Courtesy Outlets?

Just saw this; I hope you're enjoying your Cambridge Reverb. Thomas solid state? I still have mine, pretty minty. It sounds great! I learned about eqing mine when comparing it next to a drip face Princeton. I think the designer was really going for the UK Vox sound in that when the tone controls ar...

Re: Issues with my 360/12 at the moment (wrong tuners, ski jump neck)

I would definitely put the better tuners back on. No one will see those holes on the headstock from 5 feet away. What is a ski jump? The original tuners were long gone, I bought this used. Ski jump: as in a bend in the neck around the 12th fret or so. The neck is straight up to there, bends, and is...

Issues with my 360/12 at the moment (wrong tuners, ski jump neck)

I've now noticed two issues with my 1997 360/12. The previous owner put Grover slotted top Kluson style tuners. Needless to say, this does not work very well with the inner pegs on the 12-string headstock. I do like the look compared to the Schaller tuners, and going back to Schaller would mean the ...

Re: What rubber grommet/spacer to get a bridge cover onto a 4001?

Updating, now that I put the spacers in. I found that 1/2" spacers off the base plate helped lower the cover some compared to having it right against the pickup ring, but it's still a little high. But going down to 3/8" or 1/4" will have to wait until next string change.

Re: Gap between nut and fretboard - fretboard edge seems to be angled?

It's more important that the nut is flush against the end of the fingerboard than being 100% flush against the headstock. I would suggest angling the nut back and shimming the front of it (so it's supported underneath), unless you have enough height to reshape the angle of the nut bottom to match t...

Gap between nut and fretboard - fretboard edge seems to be angled?

So I installed the Rickysounds brass nut, and it's quite the improvement. However, there's one big concern. I sanded it down to the right height, and there's a gap between the nut and the fretboard. Sure enough, the old nut sat at an angle. Will this cause any problems?

Re: Remember Amplifier Courtesy Outlets?

Funny the OP mentions the Vox Cambridge Reverb, I got one myself about a month ago. I use the courtesy outlet to plug in the AC adapter for my pedals.

Re: Other Guitars Incorporating Rickenbacker Design Elements

Nice, yep there you have it! Figured the Jackson inlay shape came directly from Rickenbacker's influence (though, clearly that's about where the influence stopped as far as Jackson guitars go!). Jackson now has another Rickenbacker-inspired instrument, the Concert Bass CBXNT DX. Wasn't sure if it b...

Re: What rubber grommet/spacer to get a bridge cover onto a 4001?

The old cover on 4001 basses were "shorter in height" (Genesis reference) and fit just underneath the pickup surround (above the springs). Those did not move with the pickup when adjusting the PU height. Later ones are around 3/4" taller and do fit under the springs and ride up and d...

Re: What rubber grommet/spacer to get a bridge cover onto a 4001?

Yes, that looks right. :) Thanks. I actually tried that a long while back and thought it wasn't right, so I removed it. I'm keeping it on now. http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/bpickups.pdf This may help Funnily enough, that diagram threw me off in the first place. It showed base plate < grommet < p...

Re: What rubber grommet/spacer to get a bridge cover onto a 4001?

There is no rubber grommet or spacer used. By the sound of it, I think you may be fitting the cover in the wrong way. The baseplate of the pickup goes at the bottom end of the adjustment bolts, then there's a long spring on each bolt. The pickup cover goes at the top of the springs (and they exert ...

What rubber grommet/spacer to get a bridge cover onto a 4001?

I use the pickup cover on my Precision as a palm rest while picking, and I'd like to do the same with the 4001 that was missing its bridge cover. But when I bought the official replacement pickup cover, it sat way too low above the pickup. What's the size of the grommet/spacer to get it at the right...

New member, joining to register my 4001

Hello! I got around to joining so I could register my 4001 I got about seven years ago. Seeing music videos where Steve Priest, John Taylor (though I don't think he was an extensive Rick user), and Peter Hook (though I was disappointed to learn his "Rick" was a plywood copy) inspired me to...
