Re: Increasing volume pots value - '79 320

Sorry can’t help with all the technical stuff “as it’s all to fast for little old me” but I fitted one of Dane’s (aceonbass) harness’ with the vintage tone circuit to my 350v63. With the cap “in” on the bridge pickup and blended with just the right amount of neck pickup (middle p/u all the way down)...

+1

Ben Hall did chime in on another thread recently regarding replacement Kluson type tuners where he said RIC have found a supplier offering a better quality product, so fingers crossed 🤞

Re: Cleaning tuners - 1977 4001

I believe tuners from that period were nickel plated and not chrome plated and that’s just what happens over time unfortunately.

This is a pic of my 74’ish 4001 circa 1980 complete with dull tuners!

Re: 4030 Short Scale bass

I vaguely remember seeing that bass on RIC’s Facebook page as a factory one off, maybe the short scale 24 fret neck was a test for the 4005XC?

Re: New Rick Owner - not so happy so far....

Have you tried a simpler approach to curing the resonance problem by just placing a piece of foam under strings near the tailpiece to dampen them, might be worth a try. Not pretty I know but if it works it would just be a matter of finding a better solution. I had a Mastery on my 350v63 for a short ...

Re: 360-12 with wide spacing: Interference between strings

In the past I’ve bought 2 six strings sets and made up my own twelve string set, pricey I know but the T.I’s do last a long time and you get a few spare strings to boot!

Re: 360-12 with wide spacing: Interference between strings

From personal experience I’ve found a heavier gauge is the way to go as you’ve already identified, it’s worth a try at least. In regards to intonation problems if you haven’t already tried is to tune the low “E” a hair flat or just tune it to “G” at the 3rd fret, that 42 gauge pulls sharp real easy,...

Re: Lacquering a 4003 fretboard?

A couple of months back I went to my local music store to demo an Ampeg and by chance they had a new 4003S hanging on the wall so I asked if I could use that while trying out the amp. Latest model with no clear coat on the fretboard, needless to say I was shocked at the finish from clear coat to fre...

Yeah still loving mine also, so much so that you forget it’s there, no down side whatsoever!

As for the 4 supplied frets being stainless steel, from memory I believe they are.

Re: Knobs

When I ordered my 4003S I asked the dealer to fit vintage knobs before it became “a thing”, for the “S” models I think it looks right. On the more “blingy” 4003 the the silver tops seem more appropriate IMHO.

Re: Recommend a 4003 replacement nut please

The 4 frets supplied are colour coded and are listed as :- Purple: Medium .039 inch Blue: High .043 inch No Colour: Jumbo .051 inch Black: Super Jumbo .057 inch I used the Blue fret, I didn’t concern myself with the actual measurements just went with the feel. After removing the original nut I place...
