Re: The worst day of my life....

14 years ago and I am mortified about how maudlin I was over this. At 39 I now realize there’s so much more to life. In fact going over all my past posts on this forum. Kind of cringy. Cringing upon reflecting what our former selves have said or done is just part of life. We all do it. Sometimes on...

Re: Is light fret buzz normal on a 4003?

Thank you for your replies. I will check those measurements on my bass. Sounds like everything is completely normal for my 4003. :D

Is light fret buzz normal on a 4003?

Hi All, I own a beautiful 2017 4003 which I absolutely love to play, but have never been able to fully eliminate fret buzz. It has round wounds from the factory, the neck is almost dead straight, I have raised the action to the upper limit I find acceptable, but I still get some buzz when I'm playin...

Re: Lacquering a 4003 fretboard?

Since Rickenbacker is no longer applying nitrocellulose lacquer to their 4003 fretboards.... The more correct term is, "Since Rickenbacker is no longer finishing their 4003 fretboards...." Rickenbacker quit using nitro in @ 1958-9. Then they used a conversion varnish, aka catalyzed varnis...

Re: Super tiny dent on the back of the neck that I find annoying, is it just me?

That's not a dent, it's Mojo! People charge extra for that. Right, people do pay extra for that! Anywhere but the back of the neck as far as I am concerned. Meanwhile I imagine Geddy Lee or Paul McCartney's basses are full of nicks and bumps, but those guys were too busy making great music to focus...

Re: Super tiny dent on the back of the neck that I find annoying, is it just me?

I'm still not clear on what it is. is it an impression in the wood, and the smooth finish follows it down and back up? Or is the wood fine, and there is a ding in the finish? Did you do it or was it like that from the factory? or from a previous seller? If you took the time to post about it I doubt...

Re: Super tiny dent on the back of the neck that I find annoying, is it just me?

Thank you both for your comments. I've decided to take it in and have it fixed. Like you said, if it bugs me now it probably won't go away and I think you're right. :)

Super tiny dent on the back of the neck that I find annoying, is it just me?

Hi All, Proud owner of a 4003 Fireglo here. I have a micro tiny dent on the back of the neck, around the 5th fret. It's so small that it didn't even crack the finish, but for some reason whenever I slide my hand across it I find myself distracted by it. Has anyone else had this issue and gotten it f...

Re: Lacquering a 4003 fretboard?

IIRC is text shorthand for "If I Recall Correctly". RIC (shorthand for Rickenbacker International Corporation :D ) has used a "conversion varnish" for decades, and lately a UV curing version of that. In the last year or two, the company has stopped applying the thick varnish to ...

Re: Lacquering a 4003 fretboard?

Hi All, Since Rickenbacker is no longer applying nitrocellulose lacquer to their 4003 fretboards, would it be possible to have it done (by a professional luthier) after the fact? Some like the look of the lacquered fretboards, myself being one of them. If I purchased a new 4003, could anyone see an...

Re: Lacquering a 4003 fretboard?

I could buy a 2022 4003 and swap all the hardware and electronics from it into my 2016 4003 (has lacquered board) and you could buy that one from me. That way you would have a factory lacquered board 4003 and still retain the modern 2022 electronics and bridge. I would not mind an unfinished board....
