Re: Seeking truss rods
Ahh Rickysounds! Last time around they weren't available, so I forgot about them. Thanks!

Seeking truss rods
Hi All, Seeking a source for some 4003 truss rods to suit year 2000 model. I snapped another one on bass side. Happened in 2018, but now long story short I found the cause, required a 5mm spacer at body end. Unfortunately the rod/thread was obviously already fatigued. Rickenbacker Boutique are out o...

Re: Which pre-amp/DI stomp box do you use with your Ric bass?
I am now using a DSM Humboldt Bass Simplifier and I couldn't be happier. It is very flexible and achieves the goal perfectly. I am playing mostly at church and the engineers are really happy. I am doing some recording at the moment, call it pre-production. The tone through this unit is fantastic. Th...

Re: Which pre-amp/DI stomp box do you use with your Ric bass?
What does "woofy/damp" mean? Your dog just came in out of the rain, would be my guess. That was my first thought, as well. :D  Ahhh  Woofy, like pillowy or seemingly sort of thick and not as tight. Some people like that kind of bottom. I like mine a little tighter like a 4x1...

Re: Which pre-amp/DI stomp box do you use with your Ric bass?
I still have my MXR M-80 as a backup, but I have taken an adventure. Tried a Darkglass Microtubes Infinity for a month or so and selling it now. Too much DG flavour. Some great sounds, but I found it hard to get the right balance of natural bass tone mixed with its clean and distorted channels. My b...

Re: 4003 pot upgrade
I ordered some 500K solid-shaft pots from one supplier and three XGP 330K solid-shaft pots from Guitar Fetish. This will be the quickest way to make a change and figure out where to next. Taking a punt, since it seems there are no other supplies or reccommendations thereof.

Re: 4003 pot upgrade
Thanks guys, love the info. Nuts and bolts, this 4003 should have true 330K pots all round. Since I already have a 500K treble tone, I will go with a 500K bass tone pot. I will replace the volumes with actual 330K. This will bring the bass back to what it *should* have been from factory, albeit with...

Re: 4003 pot upgrade
Appreciate your thoughts. I'm not about to replace pickups in a hurry. Ideal if I only need to replace a few relatively inexpensive parts. One day I would like to own a v63/4003S or somesuch, or recreate a 60s/pre-'73 deluxe with CB etc etc, which would then have toaster (1/2" spacing if possib...

4003 pot upgrade
Hi All, I looked into this years ago and didn't take it anywhere. Now I have well and truly confirmed it is time to get this fixed. While I do like many of the tones of my bass, I have always been wanting some more clarity and bite. I now see where I have been lacking... Long story short, I was givi...

Re: Which pre-amp/DI stomp box do you use with your Ric bass?
I have used an MXR M-80 Bass DI+ for nigh-on 20 years. Fantastic little box, great DI. I use it for DI and very slight EQ and it is my main 'light grit/distortion' unit. It can have a slightly modern sound, but not as extreme as Darkglass units. It can be very transparent, compared to most SansAmp u...

Dear RIC - Please consider this 4003s5 "Quad Coil" :D
For the "what the heck am I thinking" file. I am warming to the new triangular pickups idea for the 4003s5. I do prefer a more regular shape, but I get where you're going. Here is an idea though, rough as it is. How about offering an ALL OUT - BALLS TO THE WALL option giving us four of the...

Re: Testing out strings is fun!
Try DR Lo-Riders. I liken them to a more even/professional sounding set of RS66LD Rotos.

Re: 4000/1/3/4 series basses which strings you using in 2021
DR Lo-Rider 45-105 since maybe 2015. New strings every few months, or boiled :D Almost as much zing and bite as Roto RS66LD, but with a more even tone across the board and slightly less tension. They also respond well to tone changes and playing position. If I want to get more dubby, they don't stil...

Re: I'm after a 4003 Fireglo with a small neck profile. Advi
Fellow Aussie here, just North of Melbourne. I didn't have a great frame of reference for Ric necks before I purchased my 2K 4003. I had tried a 4003 maybe 5-10 years earlier when I knew nothing. I knew they were typically wider at the nut than other basses and they could vary in thickness. I did tr...
