Re: Red Neck

That's right, a 4003s/8.
It was born a cold and lovely day in Feb'88, I doubt you played it at the NAMM 3 years before, but everything's possible with this bass although versatility's certainly not one of its qualities!
The string arrangement is fine, I find it more playable than expected, but I'd ...

Re: Red Neck

Pics are here: http://luciez.free.fr/rick/
But they're not new, I already posted them.
I definitely need to take good photos, but that takes time!

Re: Red Neck

I'm only shy because I'm afraid to bump it, or worse!
Otherwise it makes great impression, I love it!

Re: Red Neck

I'm the french girl who bought the 8 string red neck.
It's a great bass and I won't let it go anytime soon, sorry. Unless my neighbours sue me.
I didn't care about the red neck at first, but I must say it adds something special to it, even if I'm finding myself a little shy when I have to take it ...

Re: 4003 s/8 redneck

Good idea the pick thing!
I'll just do that, and when I have enough time at work, try and modify the Schaller strap lock buttons. My friends can do entire theater sets, they should be able to help me with this.
Thanks again for your help. I'll come back later with the pictures!!

Re: 4003 s/8 redneck

OK, you convinced me. I'll have to find the right bolts at work when I get back. I need black buttons anyway! I just hope it's not too hard to do.

I'll post pictures this week, don't worry. I've tried and take some, but I definitely need a stand to take GOOD pictures.

Re: 4003 s/8 redneck

No strap lock button yet, just the mute-adjuster-looking button, same size and everything. What's bothering me is that it looks more like a bolt than a regular screw for wood. Strap locks buttons I've seen so far were all looking like those regular screws. I guess I'll wait until the Rick store ...

Re: 4003 s/8 redneck

Thank you all.

It's here. And it's good!!!
I can't wait to plug it into my Orange amp (I'm not home right now, have to wait a couple more days), but it already sounds fantastic. Lighter weighted and easier to play than what I thought. It may need a little adjustment on the E strings, but that's it ...

Re: 4003 s/8 redneck

Oh you're right, I didn't see this topic.
Actually I couldn't resist, and bought it  . I like Ricks, I like rare, I love it.
Hopefully tomorrow it will be mine...
Thank you for your answers, I was curious about its "real value" even if I don't intend to sell it anytime soon and thought it didn ...

4003 s/8 redneck

Hello,
I'm new here and couldn't find any information about the value of such an instrument.
You can see one here: http://cgi.ebay.fr/Rickenbacker-4003-8S-SPC-Redneck-8-string-bass_W0QQitemZ110472339376QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGitarren?hash=item19b8aa1fb0QQautorefreshZtrue
It looks quite expensive to me ...
