Re: Bubbling Finish Issues?

That's not good! I had a 4001V63 from '92 and have seen others from around that timeframe that had a lot of finish chipping around the tailpiece. I'm not sure what was up with that, but the finish was extremely brittle. There certainly are pre-2010 basses that have had finish issues, but the issue ...

Re: Bubbling Finish Issues?

Couple errors, UV cure came earlier, perhaps in 2007, and not related to the issue described above. In 2010, it's my understanding the big change was to a polyester-based finish (still a UV cure finish though), but no longer a polyurethane-based finish. The new finish may also be water borne, not su...

Re: I am surprised at the strict Ric warranty stringset term

I've used Roto 77s and Pyramid flats, both are known to be of the higher tension variety. Never a problem with my 1993 4003S or my 2009 4003.

Body Repairs in Wisconsin

I dinged my 1993 Fireglo 4003s, chipped the finish on the lower bout right where my wrist lays across it when I play. Don't really want to try to drop-fill this myself. I know it won't be perfect, but want to talk to a luthier anyway. Any suggestions in Wisconsin such as Madison, Milwaukee, Green Ba...

Re: Chrome Textured Treble Pickup Bezels (Tubeampology)

I installed one on my '09 4003 MG. I went with the standard, don't really any place for my thumb based on how I play. I did have the original black one with the thumb rest, but never rested my thumb there anyway. Really finishes the look!

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

Of all the ways to interact today, IE, face to face, coffee houses, barbecues, bars, gigs, conferences, parliamentary debate, forums, chat rooms, FB, etc, the decorum here is pretty outstanding. There will always be a snide comment here and there, an anecdote gone awry, but all in all, things are fa...

"Is JH done ranting yet? Good job Ric CEO! He's the one guy who will go to his grave insisting all their instruments are all perfect and it's the customers who have wrong expectations." Golly, no disrespect there. My complaint here is that this thread, which started out as a story about a...

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

I am one of those who experienced first hand very poor customer service from Ric. Not once, but twice. I am also self employed and deal with quite a number of vendors. Customer service varies among them from good to excellent. But I have never been treated worse than the way I was treated by Ric. An...

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

Where I live, there are a lot of Amish. Superb hands-on craftsman and artisans. But everything they make from quilts to furniture has an intentional built-in flaw, as in their eyes, only god is perfect. Perhaps JH is Amish?

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

- I too was hoping for a bit more vintage/retro influence with these new basses. I just look forward to the day when RIC's issues over Lollar replacement pups are finally put to bed and they start incorporating original design horsies in their basses once again... Ash And another thing, instead of ...

Re: (We now join this RM 1999 restoration already in progres

Very ambitious, thanks for all the step by steps. I'm surprised the headstock still pulls forward given the work that it received. I read that the one Roger Waters used for "One of these Days" had a headstock that looked like your 'before' pic. And that Ric couldn't have been been more tha...

I had a wire too close to the pickup selector switch and it interfered with proper closing of the contacts.
