Re: New Rickenbacker Owner, Looking for Suggestions

Hey guys. I'm using this primary for recording so I'm not even using a amp. So I've been mixing it into tracks/eqing and still not getting that sound. Just plugging it straight into an interface. How do Rotosound Jazz Flatwounds sound in a Ric vs.Thomastik? I guess that's what the craft and art of ...

Re: New Rickenbacker Owner, Looking for Suggestions

I'd keep it. '93 was a good year. I have a 1993 4003s, the neck is slim and straight, everything is superb on it. Plus, a 4003 has easier to adjust truss rods compared to a 4001. There are some great 4001 basses on the forum, but you have to know what you are buying as not all are the same. IOW, som...

Re: New Rickenbacker Owner, Looking for Suggestions

Those are very stylized sounds. Definitely TI Flats, as mentioned, is the place to start as far as strings go. Thomastik Infeld Jazz TI Flats Secondly, a 'Toaster Top' neck pickup creates a unique sound that is part of what you are hearing. The stock 4003 Hi Gain pickups have a more grindy modern to...

My preamp has 12AX7s.

Must be more to it than that, as I sound nuthin' like you or Squire!

Re: Came Back from the Dark Side

John, there's actually a lot of material on the '97-up guards that you Dremmel off to get the vintage shape. I was surprised how much. I had a 1993 guard to use as a template and I taped off a target line. Yeah, it took a bit of time, I do not have a Dremel, just sanding blocks and assorted grits. ...

Came Back from the Dark Side

My first Ric is a 2009 4003 MG. I was looking at ways to make the bass 'mine' so I swapped in a black TRC (from a Laredo mod) and a black pickguard (from Pickguardian). I thought it looked cool. But after a while, it seemed to be missing something. I put back on both the original white TRC and pickg...

Re: 4004Cii V/V/T mod

Since each coil is across all strings, I see no reason for series/parallel coils switch for each pup. On DiMarzio, Nordys, and other pups where the two coils go EA and DG, then a series/parallel makes sense.

Re: 4004Cii V/V/T mod

You could go the Seymour Duncan's site, and look for standard Jazz Bass wiring. Otherwise, someone here can post a diagram. The ultimate 4004 wiring mod is to replace the vol pots with push/pulls so each pup can be operated in standard dual coil/humbucking mode, or single coil mode. I don't have a d...

New 4003 basses are readily available. The others you mention may take a bit of work to track down, and will cost you.

Re: I Want You/She's So heavy

......The run of notes is played on the G string except for the lower A which is played at the 7th fret on the D string. You will need all four fingers on the fretting hand (no slackers, here  ), play the first four notes then slide down so the pinkie is on the G for the next run of notes ...
