Re: Keeley 4 knob compressor pedal

Wow, Peter! You got a great price on the Keeley. Should give you all the signal squash you want, without treble overload.

Re: Keeley 4 knob compressor pedal

I bought my JB2 in 2010, and, at the time, I didn't know of any stores online or otherwise that carried them. It looks like the seller you referenced is adding a surcharge to the retail price. Probably cheaper to order one directly through Steve Lasko.

Re: Fender Mustang GT200 Amp

Well, Peter, I just recently purchased a Fender Mustang IV [V.2] 150 watt, two speaker, modeling amp. I also have a Boss GT-100 multi-effects unit. For clean and slightly dirty tones, with my two Stratocasters, the Mustang quite simply blows the Boss unit out of the water. It's not as good with my R...

Re: Keeley 4 knob compressor pedal

Congratulations, Peter, on the purchase of your first Rickenbacker 12-string! Many of the folks here prefer Janglebox compressors, which are in the same price range as the four-knob Keeley. When dialed in right, they really capture that quintessential Byrds sound. The Jangleboxes have a treble boost...

Re: How the Beatles Wrote ‘A Day in the Life’

Thanks so much for the link(s) Peter! The piece on "A Day in the Life" is fascinating, and the two other articles whose links are in the text (one on Lennon and McCartney's collaborations, and the other on "Hey Jude") are even better. Who would have known that the editors of The ...

Re: R.E.M. Out of Time Reissue

I couldn't resist sharing this hour-long interview with Mike Mills. It touches on the formation of the band and the early years, not just the Warner Bros. period:

Would have liked to hear from Peter, too, but I guess you can't have it all. :D

Re: Gardening at Night

I've heard contradictory information about the 1982-1984 period. Specifically, Mitch Easter's Fender XII makes at least one appearance on Reckoning (the famous intro to "So. Central Rain"). This has been corroborated here by Mitch Easter. But Peter Buck said in an interview for one of the ...

Gardening at Night

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRvA4TFLlEk This is near the top of my list of favorite R.E.M. songs, and is apparently one of the band's absolute favorites as well (they chose it as the encore for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony). I've always thought there was at least one elect...

Re: Are the Beatles still popular and relevent?

John, Paul, George and Ringo were a unique blend of raw talent, energy, eclectic musical tastes and perfect timing. The quality and broad spectrum of their songs is why they still are relevent. They pushed the envelope and broke the rules as they shed what they considered "ordinary music stere...

Just listened to this, and it's the best song you guys have done in a while! Catchy melody and nice, punchy guitar sound. Where are you guys gigging these days?

Re: R.E.M. Out of Time Reissue

Reckoning includes five essential R.E.M. tracks: "Harborcoat," "7 Chinese Bros.," "Pretty Persuasion," "So. Central Rain," and "Rockville." But I think the album as a whole is much more uneven than Murmur , Fables , or Lifes Rich Pageant , which I c...

Deconstructing The Beatles

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with Scott Freiman. He's a businessman and CEO turned musicologist, with a penetrating intellect, a lively speaking presence, and a great passion for The Beatles. I didn't know who he was until last Sunday, when he gave a presentation at our local art museum...

Re: Rickenbacker 381 1992 fretboard break

I had a similar disaster experience when I took a used Rickenbacker 12-string to a tech who came highly recommended, but who (apparently) did not know Rickenbackers. The action on the guitar was high, so he gave it a three-minute truss rod adjustment and sent me home with it. Within 24 hours the nec...
