Re: My noob question: Crushed foam under pickups?
It is a shame. Shameful customer service on RICs part . Guitar Center was great, Maxwell. Nearest one is about an hour away. The guitar was shipped from stock at a store in Indiana. Return was quick and painless. They offer a standard 45 day return window. But I couldn't wait another minute to unloa...

Re: My noob question: Crushed foam under pickups?
Looks like we've narrowed it down to return it or fix it. No response yet from GC. I will check with RIC. Cheers, George Update. RIC "customer service" responded by email. The unsigned, anonymous coward representative basically told me good luck. This is how they treat someone who ju...

Re: My noob question: Crushed foam under pickups?
Yeah, both are a mess. If it's less trouble replacing the foam than a return, I'm not opposed to that. Sweetwater shows next delivery for a 360/12FG is out 4 months. Unless it's delayed.

Re: My noob question: Crushed foam under pickups?
Hello. Exactly that. After sitting overnight, the foam is still too flat to support the pickups. Especially the bridge.
I had hoped it would bounce back.

My noob question: Crushed foam under pickups?
My 360/12 just arrived from Guitar Center. Pickups are way too low, and the underlying foam is crushed. Bad. Born on date of 8/24. Is this typical of a new RIC? It is return worthy bad. Doesn't seem like I should have to replace parts on a new guitar. I'm familiar with the rubber mute pad self destr...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
This all occurred just slightly before the earth was covered in guitar centers. Difficult as that may be to imagine. I do seem to recall buying two or three USED instruments from them...................... I'm sure you have valuable input to offer, Jeffrey. Perhaps someday you will be moved to shar...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
...I dealt with Toad Music, a legendary music store in Ashland, Oregon. They got the bass, informed me that the nut was miscut (not an unusual occurrence - I have a 1986 MB 4003 with a bad nut) and we discussed mods. As delivered to me, it had a brass nut, hand-made active electronics, a Hi-A picku...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
For the record, here is the factory rout of a 1975 4001S: P8040428.JPG underpg.jpg Thank you, Gary. Not at all what mine looks like. The shop used a drill and chisel. They removed more material than necessary. The neck p'up only intrudes about 10mm. My "bubba" route is closer to 15mm, wit...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
If it had a miscut brass nut then whoever installed that did a poor job. The factory never shipped brass nuts... Hmmm... I didn't read it that way. I think he was saying that the factory (plastic?) nut was mis-cut. It was replaced with a properly cut brass nut. I've seen them on eBay in brass, spec...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
It wasn't like anyone was really discounting them. My recollection is that they took my money and told me don't call us, we'll call you. Attitude was one of "you're lucky we're taking time out of our busy day to deal with you." And "you'll get it when Rickenbacker is good and ready t...

$500? Damn. I think I paid $700 for mine. It wasn't like anyone was really discounting them. My recollection is that they took my money and told me don't call us, we'll call you. Attitude was one of "you're lucky we're taking time out of our busy day to deal with you." And "you'll ge...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
I think that sounds right, I would expect under 2 grand. Lots of folks out there are asking the sun and the moon, but I see unmodded 4001's of the same vintage, in fantastic shape, selling around 1200-1500 fairly often. I payed $500 for it in 1976. When I last did the inflation calculator check, it...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
I see nothing wrong with that bass, George, unless it has structural issues that are not visible The alleged downsides of that bass are well balanced by the pros of being white finish and rounded edges which is an advantage if you like those features And the price is cool an more than affordabe for...

Re: Return to 4000 for resale?
RIC actually made 4001S basses that probably had the same route that was done by your music store tech back in the day. The aftermarket tailpiece replacement sticks out like a sore thumb though, so I'd find a more recent, stable casting to replace it with. LOL. Man, you guys have death-ray vision!!...
