Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 4
Maybe I was missing something. I remeber the recxcomended procedure was to pull the neck into position, tighten the rods and repeat as needed. The part that was new to me was to realize that the rods should be loosened and retightend for each adjustment so that they can slip in their channels.

Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 4
One other part of the story. After I received the bass, I was very worried. It was obvious that the neck break had been repaired, and hidden with the dark overspray, only to break again. I am not sure why it broke. The eBay listing mentioned bad repalcement truss rods. But in any cas ethe neck had t...

Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 4
Thanks everyone for the way too positive feed back. Oh I really chose my pictures well. I mentioned I wouldn't let your critical eyes get too close. Or maybe it was my critical eyes I was worried about. Actually though th ecrak is very apparent. It seemed to absorb stain from the original dark overs...

Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 4
Just in case anyone cares, here is how the whole thing turned out. I include before and after pictures. In the end I scraped and sanded off the darkened finish and then did my best to airbrush a replacement. It ain't perfect (no you can't look close) but it would take a close look to notice the fix ...

Re: Double 8 String
I have only limited experience in 8-string playing. And frankly I'm wondering what tuning goes with those gages. I use a Buddy Emmons style C6 tuning with .016 .016 .018 .026 .026 .035 .045 .056 Tuned D-E-C-A-G-E-C-A high to low (yes the second string is pitched higher than the first, Standard C6 ha...

Re: Source for pot with push-pull switch
Stewart MacDonald is an obvious source: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Potentiometers/Push-pull_Pots.html?actn=100101&xst=3&xsr=5611 The problem is that you will require a $30 minimum order. Grizzley is another source a bit cheaper but they seem to only have 500K pots (whic...

Re: George and his Gretsches
The way to distinguish the Gents is from the mute knobs. The first Gent had Screw Up mutes. The knobs were round and sat flat against the guitar face. The mutes were raised by turning the knobs. The second gent used tilted knobs where pulling on and straingtening the knobs raised the mutes. This was...

Re: One, Two, Three, Four ...
Great job Francesco. I'm fairly new here and just picking up on these things. But one interesting thing about this tune in that Paul played it differently live - at least in the early days. In the verse, when he goes to A, he would go up at the 7th fret rather than dropping down to the 5th fret like...

Re: making slots on bridge saddles
Making a good nut is not easy, especially with tools around the house. For my first one, someone suggested using a table knife with a serated edge which was a disaster. Read Frank Ford's article on nuts and then decide if you really want to try it. http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/GenSetup/N...

Re: Noticed a slight problem when I was changing strings
A silly story. The second guitar I ever "built" was a telecaster from parts about 20-more than I'd like to mention- years ago. Since I was just learning, I was worried about cutting the nut and went through a process where I would slowly reshape and deepen the slots in the nut over the per...

Re: Noticed a slight problem when I was changing strings
Well I'm an idiot, but it is sill a good idea. One drop about dead center, and its probably better if you use the 5 tubes for a dollar superglue from Wallmart rather than the good stuff. You just want something that will take up the imbalance between the strings. The advantage of superglue in this a...

Ok I see what you are saying. Interstingly these schematics http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19502.pdf http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19519.pdf shows the terminal as open. Re: RIC Schematics - Blend Knob
Huh...Next time I open mine up, I'll have to take a look. But unless I misunderstand the question, it seems that it would work either way. I never use that control (and didn't George - Happy Birthday - Harrison say something about never figuring out just what that knob was good for?). I have conside...

Re: Noticed a slight problem when I was changing strings
If you do use superglue, just use a drop to hold down the center for easy removal next time. The string do most of the work of holding the nut in place. I used to use titebond or just some white glue, that would hold it mostly with the tack. But I started using superglue because I didn't need to clam...
