Re: Chip Touch-Up

The chip is on the body as seen in the picture below. As you can see, it is quite noticeable. The wood does not appear to be damaged in any way, but it does go through the clear-coat and finish. For what it's worth, I purchased the guitar with the chip and the price was drastically lower because of...

Re: Selling a vintage Rick bass -experiences?

I'd suggest putting it on consignment somewhere rather than selling it yourself. You might end up with a bit less in your pocket, but (as noted above) ebay takes a cut of the final sale and (more importantly) they go out of their way to ensure that the buyer is protected, to the point that all dispu...

Re: 370/12 or 370/12 SPC? (or ?)

Thanks for the info (and that's a beautiful 370/12!) Would the consensus be that this is an McGuinn overrun? Strangely, the neck is quite easy to play, despite feeling both thinner and narrower than my 330/12. And it sounds great (even with round-wound strings of unknown origin -- I may actually lik...

Re: 370/12 or 370/12 SPC? (or ?)

Looks like one of the overruns to me, and the serial number is an indication for that as well since it's so close to the McGuinn run. They did in fact produce a 370/12SPC in the early 90s for the German market, but those had the raised letter TRC and a regular tolex case, and maybe those were avail...

370/12 or 370/12 SPC? (or ?)

New-to-me 370/12. Could it be one of the elusive 370/12 SPC "overrun" guitars? SN: B3 94XX (February 1990) 21 frets, 6 saddle bridge, foam under pickups, old style case. Light fretboard on a thin (and surprisingly comfortable) neck. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8003541/370/IMG_3991....

Re: 1982 330 JG - neck finish and neck pickup

Thanks for the nice words. I am guessing that there's an issue with a solder joint or a pot went bad. They're fixing it (or attempting to do so). We'll see how they do. The frets are really small (maybe more so due to the flaking finish) but seem to be in good shape. I'd be open to a neck refin with...

Re: 1982 330 JG - neck finish and neck pickup

I had an '83 with the exact same flaking on the fretboard. The person I sold it to (the current owner) eventually had Mark Arnquist strip and re-shoot the board with CV. I came across a reference or two to the same issue. Does anyone know whether Mark Arnquist still doing this sort of thing? (He's ...

1982 330 JG - neck finish and neck pickup

I just received a 1982 330 JG and am trying to troubleshoot two issues: pretty severe flaking on the neck finish and no sound coming from the neck pickup. (I knew about the former, am a bit disappointed by the latter). https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8003541/330/IMG_3776.JPG First, the neck: htt...

Re: The best money I ever spent

I lucked out by finding one on the local craigslist and couldn't be happier with it. It seems to make my 360 seem a bit more alive (and a bit more "solid" with a good deal more sustain).

Re: Hagstrom Viking Guitar

I had one of the Hagstrom F-12 (?) 12 strings for a while. Although beat to heck, it played great and sounded lovely. The neck was very thin, but quite wide (and a huge contrast to the 330/12 that succeeded it). The various older (Swedish) ones I've played have all been interesting, while the reissu...

Re: Fender Amps

A twin is a lot of amp. I'd suggest a deluxe reverb or princeton reverb if you can track either down. (I play a '68 twin and have yet to get it above 4 on the volume).

Not many folks are fans of the supersonic, which is more of a "modern" amp.

Re: Love my Rics but its time for a Tele. Ric/Tele owners he

I have a couple of Rics and one Telecaster - the Joe Strummer model which is a vintage 1966 model. The playability of the Tele exceeds that of my Rics. I have zero complaints about my Ric's palyabilities (yes, the short 325 is difficult to play, but I knew that before I bought it), but the Telecast...

Re: Rick-o-sound not working 370/12 help please

If you plug a mono cable into the ROS jack you should get the bridge pickup (IIRC) If you plug cables into both jacks at the same time (which is WRONG, it's WRONG) I have no idea what would or should happen. I think the space-time continuum would fall apart. You'll get nothing if plugged into both ...

Re: Rick-o-sound not working 370/12 help please

Forgive me if this is too basic:
Have you used the ric-o-sound before? It is a stereo output, so you will need either a ric-o-sound box or a TRS cable and splitter to make it work. Otherwise, you may only get the bridge (iirc) pickup, and not even that, depending on where the fifth knob is set.

Re: The latest FedEx craziness

I have all of my musical equipment covered under a separate policy through Heritage. Everything on the policy is covered for the agreed value and it doesn't matter where the item is located or shipped or borrowed, etc. if it is damaged, it is paid for. Simple and I never have to deal with individua...
