I used Rotosound flats on my 4003 in the past and liked it very much! I liked the feel and sound but eventually changed them because the rock music that I play needs more "boom", thus the rounds. Maybe I'll put flats on the 4003 next time around and keep the rounds on the 4004. :?:

+1, Angelo! My 4003 "peliroja" is great and I love her but the 4004 is more "proper" in the way you described it! 8)

John, you were right: Ι picked up the 4004 this week from set up and it sounds amazing! :D Action is perfect now, the strings sound louder and gone is the dullness of the E string. Heaven! :D

Could someone tell me why/when Rick decided to change the design of the headstock? In my mid-90s FG headstock you can't see any difference in the headstock wood(s).

@ Woody: You are right. After an adjustment period, I am getting used to the 4004 neck and enjoying it as it is a more “proper” bass neck, compared to the 4003 which is super fast and more guitar-like.
